This welcoming apartment in Ambleside is ideal for couples seeking a romantic Lakeland escape or solo travellers craving fresh air and freedom in the heart of the Lake District National Park. 1 mile away, the northern shores of Lake Windermere at Waterhead offer the perfect waterside outing. Hire a kayak, try paddleboarding, or board a scenic cruise. For walkers, Loughrigg Fell (2 miles) provides a rewarding yet manageable climb with panoramic lake vistas. Seasoned hikers can set off from 3 miles away to conquer the Fairfield Horseshoe, a classic full-day ridge walk with sweeping vistas. If a slower pace appeals, wander 0.5 miles to Stock Ghyll Force, where a dramatic 70-foot waterfall tumbles through peaceful woodland. For a cultural interlude, head 4 miles to Dove Cottage in Grasmere, once home to William Wordsworth. Bowness-on-Windermere (5 miles) offers lively lakeside cafes and attractions, while the quieter charm of Coniston awaits 8 miles from home.

Reached via a footbridge from the parking area, the apartment immediately sets the scene with windows looking out towards the river – and a dining table positioned for a front-row view. The sofas are gathered around a wood burner, creating an inviting hub for cosy evenings in, while the compact yet well-equipped kitchen ensures you have everything needed for easy self-catering. Upstairs, the generously sized bedroom boasts a super-king bed for a restful night, with ample room for a cot if you're travelling with a little one. A power shower in the en-suite adds a refreshing start or end to the day. The apartment is also dog-friendly, so your four-legged companion can join the fun.

Outside, a shared lawned garden overlooks the river and includes seating for laid-back afternoons by the water. Secure storage for outdoor gear is available, and private off-road parking for two cars makes arrivals easy.

We stayed in Overbeck 25 years ago, this time we stayed in Middlebeck and loved the view out over the river watching the diving ducks (Goosanders), the kingfisher and Little Dipper. Very convenient for walking into Ambleside or down to Waterhead along a riverside walk, the dog loved it, to catch a ferry on Windermere.

Beautiful location on the river within 5-10 mins walk of town centre. Heron seen daily fishing and spending the night.
