Staying at this unique 1907 property in the heart of the Lake District National Park offers friends and family a wonderful mix of historic charm and outdoor adventure. Located 3 miles from Windermere, the house is perfectly placed for exploring both bustling lakeside towns and peaceful fell walks. A short stroll brings you into the village of Staveley, where you can start the day with coffee and pastries from the award-winning bakery. Cyclists will be in their element at Wheelbase, the largest cycle shop in the UK – ideal if you're hiring bikes or picking up last-minute gear. For walkers, the options from the doorstep are superb. Head up Reston Scar for far-reaching views over the South Lakes, or take on the more challenging Kentmere Horseshoe, a classic ridge walk for experienced hikers.

Carefully restored to celebrate its Edwardian heritage, this remarkable home beautifully bridges past and present. Many original details have been lovingly preserved, creating a distinctive residence rich in history and character. The ground floor hosts three elegant reception rooms along with a generous breakfast kitchen. Here, a double-sided wood burner forms a striking focal point, while patio doors open out to the garden beyond. Throughout the restoration, thoughtful attention was given to retaining period craftsmanship. The dining room echoes the grandeur of a traditional country estate, complete with bespoke furniture dating back to 1907. Upstairs, five individually styled bedrooms reflect the home's Edwardian roots, each finished with period-appropriate touches. The bathrooms continue the sense of occasion, with ornate detailing and statement fittings that create a truly indulgent setting for a long soak after a day outdoors.

Set within almost 12 acres of wooded grounds blending formal gardens with natural landscapes, the estate includes a natural pond, meandering streams and small waterfalls. Two large patios and various seating areas provide spots for outdoor dining and gatherings. A furnished summer house and several outbuildings – including a garage, three large stores and the now-derelict "Powerhouse," once used to generate electricity for the property – add further interest. Private parking for up to six cars allows guests to arrive and depart with ease.

The property location was excellent. The kitchen amenities and the utensils provided were very handy for our needs. The DVDs and the Scrabble game kept the kids occupied.

I had my 60th birthday at Middle Reston inviting 10 family members. The accommodation was luxurious, spacious, clean, fantastic views, fabulously refurbished with all its original features kept and maintained. The kitchen is very spacious with a very large wood burner in the centre of the room which kept the interior of the house very warm. Also thRead moree kitchen has numerous kitchen facilities e.g beer / wine fridge, large fridge freezer; microwave; rice cooker; slow cooker and a tap for instant boiling water. I had the best 60th birthday and would definitely recommend as a fantastic place to stay! Hide
