With ample space for up to nine guests, this adorable retreat has been sympathetically updated and tastefully furnished to make a fabulous base for exploring Ambleside and Windermere. The cottage sits in an idyllic spot just outside the thriving Lakeland town of Ambleside, with an array of great places to eat and drink, and attractions and landmarks including The Bridge House, Ambleside Roman Fort, and Stock Ghyll Force. From Waterhead Pier (1.5 miles) you can take a trip by steamboat along the length of Windermere, calling at Bowness and Lakeside. Exploring the area north of Windermere, keen walkers and hikers can head to the Langdale Pikes, Wansfell Pike, and Loughrigg Fell (all within 7.5 miles). Rydal Water and Grasmere are to the north-west (both within 4 miles), and Coniston Water and Esthwaite Water are to the south (both within 10 miles).

A welcoming hallway with flagstone flooring leads into this tastefully decorated cottage and through to the characterful lounge. Featuring oak flooring, ample seating (including a cute window seat), a Smart TV, and a welcoming wood burner beneath original timber ceiling beams, this is an ideal space to unwind in after a day discovering the Lake District. Heading through, the light and elegantly arranged galley-style kitchen is fully equipped for preparing special family meals. A couple of steps lead down into the handsome dining room with its generous central table. The first two of the cottage's five bright and airy bedrooms are also downstairs: a cheerful king-size room with a vanity area, and a beautiful beamed single room. Exploring the ground floor further, you will find a useful wet room and a porch providing a handy space for canine guests to rest. An original oak staircase leads up to the first floor, which features a spacious suite with a beautiful king-size bedroom with its own snug area and steps leading down to a further seating area and French doors which open out onto a pretty balcony. The suite also has access to a refreshing shower room. Also on the first floor is a stylish twin bedroom and a charming king-size room alongside a lovely bathroom.

Stepping outside, the mature grounds feature a secluded patio overlooking a tiered garden, providing a beautiful spot for everyone to sit out, dine alfresco, and take in the glorious views over Loughrigg Fell and towards the Langdales. Private off-street parking is available for three cars.

House was ideal for our family group of 9 Bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The garden was a bit steep but the reward was a fantastic view across the far hills to Scafell. Dining room had limited space but more than adequate. We had a really relaxing time away ftom the hustle of town in the quiet countryside.

This was a great house which really suited our large family. The garden was very exciting, we had a treasure hunt in there. The view from the top terrace was stunning. It felt a long way from the town as lovely and quiet but was walkable in 10 minutes. You can walk directly to the top of the waterfall from the house. .

We really enjoyed our stay celebrating my Father's 70th birthday. Cosy cottage, beautiful surroundings and a lovely garden to enjoy. With 8 of us staying we had a full house and enjoyed sitting round the fire in the living room playing games and eating dinner in the dining room made for 8. Would definitely stay again.

The cottage was very warm and inviting when we arrived. All the rooms were clean and uncluttered. The dinning room is a too small for 9 guests to sit round the table comfortably but we managed. Two of the parking spaces are very tight to get in and out of if you have a big 4x4. There are lots of lovely walks from the cottage and there is a very comRead morefortable pub less than a mile away but the walk back up the hill is challenging! The studio area was not available to us even though it is in the advert which was inconvenient for one guests who planned to work while staying at the cottage. There was no explanation as to why we couldn't use the studio. The cottage is in a lovely peaceful location and is a good place to stay with friends or family Hide

A lovely large home in a quiet, beautiful location, just a short (but steep!) walk from Ambleside. It was a perfect stay for a large group of friends, large bedrooms and shared space. Absolutely wonderful stay!

The Airbnb was beautiful and peaceful - within walking distance of Ambleside. Spacious interior with a landscaped garden. There were 5 bedrooms - 3 spacious doubles and 2 good size singles. The "main" bedroom had an ensuite bathroom, small snug with 2 sofas and a balcony overlooking the garden. There was another good size bathroom on the upper flooRead morer with toilet, washbasin, shower and bath. The ground floor had a cosy lounge with a wood burner leading to a dinning area adequate for 4 people. The kitchen was galley style and well equipped with good storage, large fridge, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The kitchen led to a second dinning area with a table for 8-10 people, 2 further bedrooms (1 double and 1 single) and a small third bathroom with toilet, sink and shower. There was a large freezer near this bathroom. The heating was good and Wifi was excellent. There is parking for 3 cars but the narrow lane can make entering the car port tricky for larger vehicles. Lovely place! Hide

Lovely place to stay- really nice walk straight from house initially through farmers fields then can go into open fields. Great location close to Ambleside. Disappointing on arrival as no toilet roll in the bathrooms, no basic essentials in kitchen such as bin bags or oil for cooking. No wood left in the house at all and it said initial wood providRead moreed so would recommend taking wood if it's cold! Really good communication and easy to find, easy check in with lockbox. Hide

It's a lovely location, a lane just off the bottom of The Struggle. About 15 mins walk into Ambleside. It's a long and rambling house with multi-stepped and over grown gardens; hidden at the very top is patio where you can look out over Loughrigg and towards Langdale.

We (6 adults, 2 toddlers and a baby) spent a very happy week at the cottage, in part because we had very good weather and spent a lot of time outside in the wonderful garden. The house had everything we needed. We regularly walked to and from Ambleside, with and without buggies, and didn't find The Struggle too difficult.
