Also within easy reach are Brockhole on Windermere, School Knott Tarn, the Orrest Head Viewpoint, and Blackwell – the Arts and Crafts House (all within 3 miles). From Bowness Bay you can take a steamboat trip across Windermere, calling at Lakeside and Wray Castle. To the north of the lake, Ambleside (5 miles) is home to The Bridge House, Ambleside Roman Fort, and Stock Ghyll Force.
