A fantastic holiday home for larger families and groups of friends, this superb retreat sits in a beautiful spot at the heart of the Lake District – perfect for discovering the region's unforgettable landscapes. The property overlooks Skelwith Bridge, a charming village which is home to the Skelwith Force waterfall, with the delightful lakes of Loughrigg Tarn and Elter Water to the north (both within a mile). Standing at the northern edge of Windermere, the vibrant town of Ambleside (2.5 miles) has a range of traditional pubs, fantastic restaurants, and independent shops – with landmarks and attractions including The Bridge House, Ambleside Roman Fort, Zeffirellis Cinema, and the Armitt Museum. The area is perfect for walkers, with Loughrigg Fell, Langdale Pikes, and Cathedral Cavern all within 5 miles. Coniston Water and Esthwaite Water are to the south, and Rydal Water and Grasmere to the north (all within 7 miles).

Entering this grand and welcoming residence, head through to the cheerful and light-filled lounge/diner, which is at the heart of the property. With sumptuous seating, a roaring wood burner in an original inglenook, a Smart TV, and an original window seat, the lounge is a great space for everyone to unwind in. An inviting dining table occupies one corner, perfect for enjoying a special meal which you can rustle up in the beautifully arranged and fully equipped kitchen. Heading up to the first floor, you will find two of the property's four light and stylishly decorated bedrooms: a sweet twin room and a cosy double. These rooms share a refreshing bathroom. Two further bedrooms are on the second floor: a charming twin and a lovely double, which share an elegantly styled bathroom.

Heading outside, the generous and steeply sloping fellside garden has ample outdoor furniture set in a charming patio space, providing a lovely spot for a peaceful drink in the evening as you take in the far-reaching views. Parking is available for three cars.

This is a lovely, well maintained & comfy property in a fab location. The kitchen is a good size with everything needed for a self catering stay. The two bathrooms(one on each floor) are well laid out & very clean. The beds are very comfy & with the peaceful location allowed great sleeps. The lounge is great for relaxing with comfy seating. The outRead more door seating is accessed by some steep steps but well worth it for the views. We really enjoyed our stay at Tarn house and would love to return in the future. Hide

We had a fantastic stay over Christmas. The property is very spacious so we felt like we had lots of room. The kitchen is also very well equipped. We also made the most of the log burner. We really enjoyed the location and took a few walks to Loughrigg tarn followed by a swim. It's also very close to Chester's by the River which serves beautiful foRead moreod and Ambleside. It felt like a great base to explore the surrounding area. Hide

We chose this place because of its proximity to Tarn Hows and Ambleside and the location didn't disappoint. Very well appointed, we didn't lack for anything. Appreciated the extra touches such as board games etc. very private and peaceful, exactly what we wanted

Fantastic property in a great location, the kitchen has everything you need. Access to a lovely garden, plenty of parking and a nice pub just a short walk away.
