Ideal for families or friends, this bright and spacious cottage is in the small hamlet of Roger Ground. From the property, you can stroll a mile along a level, country footpath, crossing sheep-dotted fields, down into the picturesque village of Hawkshead. Here, you'll find a good selection of shops, pubs and cafes dotted around the pretty square. While in the area, don't miss a visit to Hill Top, the former home of Beatrix Potter at Near Sawrey (2.5 miles), and a walk around the picturesque Tarn Hows (3 miles), surrounded by woodlands and stunning views. If you're feeling adventurous, Go Ape in the Grizedale Forest is also just 3 miles away. Located between Esthwaite Water and Coniston Water, and only 3.5 miles from Windermere, this is a fabulous base for outdoor enthusiasts, with a huge choice of hiking trails, cycling routes, adventure activities and water sports available nearby.

This impressive holiday escape is light, bright and surprisingly spacious, with elegant furnishings that seamlessly blend old and new. Step through the front door and follow the hallway into the handsome lounge, which has picture windows that flood the room with light. Cosy up around the wood burner and enjoy a film on the Sky TV, or simply enjoy a quiet corner with a good book, listen to some music or simply sit back and soak up the glorious view. The impressive kitchen boasts a host of excellent appliances and ample storage and workspace for everyone to lend a hand with dinner. It flows through to the beautiful dining area, a perfect entertaining space with an ornamental fireplace and a picture window – allowing you to enjoy every meal with a view. The sleeping accommodation – all on the same level – is equally stylish and comfortable. The double bedroom has an en-suite shower room, while the king-size (which has yet more wonderful views) and twin bedroom share the spacious family bathroom, which has a shower over the bath and WC.

The front terrace overlooks the pristine grounds that give way to far-reaching views towards Kirstine Pass and the surrounding mountain range. At the back, the terrace offers views over rolling countryside to Sawrey and beyond. Enjoy the gorgeous vistas and the fresh air with a morning coffee or an al fresco meal on the patio, accessed via several steps. Love visiting the cottage,The views are lovely and calming. We did have an issue with the front door lock which meant waiting most of Sunday for someone to come out to do the repair,It wasted most of a day really and was concerning as my husband had gone out to Hawkshead earlish and couldn't get back in. If I had also gone it would have been a disaRead morester . Hide

We enjoyed our second stay in Hillcrest. It is perfectly situated with a lovely view and sense of space. WiFi is decent, kitchen is really well equipped and the bed is one of the best we've slept in on holiday. Its one of the better places we've stayed in 20 years in the Lakes. The property isn't perfect, as it needs a bit of tlc and deeper cleaRead morening since we last stayed. We are also disappointed at another price rise for next year at more than 3 times the rate of inflation. Perhaps because the former excellent company has sold out to national one. Often results in price gouging. We'd recommend, but the future price is starting to affect that. Hide

We had a great stay in Hillcrest. It's a spacious, well equipped cottage and the view from the lounge out onto the fields is beautiful. The weather wasn't the best while we were there, but the cottage is so lovely that we were happy to spend time indoors. Hillcrest is well positioned too. A 10min walk and we were in Hawkshead and it's a short driveRead more or cycle to Grizedale, Ambleside etc. Hoping for a return visit to this gem. Hide

We have been visiting here for many years. It's a beautiful cottage. Great features are... well laid out, spotlessly clean, very comfortable, well-equipped, lovely walks from house including a short walk to Hawkshead, We've already booked for next year.
