This carefully updated Victorian property is an ideal base for friends or families looking to discover the Lake District's stunning scenery and exciting outdoor adventures. Walk downhill just a few hundred metres into the heart of popular Ambleside, where you'll find a choice of pubs and restaurants for eating out – and fabulous mini-markets, a bakery and a butcher if you prefer to dine in. The town has much to offer, including some boutique shops, an independent cinema and the much-photographed, tiny bridge house, which has sat over Stock Beck since the 17th century. Catch the shuttle bus to Waterhead Pier for waterside walks or cruises on Lake Windermere, or venture to the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall, Ambleside Roman Fort and Stagshaw Gardens, all within 1.5 miles. In the nearby area, you can also go mountain biking, wild swimming, climbing, canyoning, ridge scrambling and more.

The terraced stone cottage is set over four storeys and is accessed via six slate steps up to the front door. Step into the inner hallway and through to the comfortable lounge, arranged around the warming gas fire and boasting a bay window with superb views. The deep-cushioned sofas are perfect for cosying into while enjoying a film on the TV, a good book or chatting with your family. Head through to the modern kitchen/diner, which is bright and spacious, featuring a farmhouse-style table that's ideal for leisurely meals together at the start or end of your day. Appliances include a microwave and a dishwasher for convenience. A useful utility on the lower-ground floor has a washer/dryer and room for all your outdoor gear. On the first floor is a pretty, king-size bedroom, with a TV and free-standing wardrobe, that enjoys beautiful views over the village and fells. The family bathroom and the shower room are also on this level. Another flight of stairs leads you to the top floor of the cottage and two further bedrooms, both with areas of sloping ceiling: a light, bright twin to the rear, and a pretty double from which you'll have one of the best views in Ambleside.

At the back of the cottage is a raised, terraced patio with a bistro table and chairs, reached via steps shared with the neighbouring property. From the end of the garden, a shared path leads to the footpath to Wansfell. At the front, there's off-road, private parking for one car.

Lovely cosy house in a convenient location, parking was great and the kitchen was really well equipped. Overall the house was a bit tired looking, and could definitely do with more coat hooks for wet walking gear

Great location. The beds were very comfortable and the property was clean. Please be aware that dogs have to be on lead in the garden because it is shared and they are not allowed on the grass belonging to the next door property.

Fab location in Ambleside. Steep walk in and out of town but worth it for the views and quiet. Lovely walk to the waterfalls directly from the back gate. Shared garden but we were fortunate enough to not have neighbours on our stay. Excellent facilities - all you would expect and more in terms of kitchen and laundering equipment.
