Big on character and even bigger on views, this gorgeous barn conversion sits just outside the heart of Grasmere. It's surrounded by traditional Lakeland slate buildings and glorious fell scenery – ideal for nature-loving friends or families keen to get away from it all. The village centre is a short stroll away, placing galleries, welcoming cafes and charming shops within 0.5 miles, along with the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop (0.5 miles). Literature lovers can explore the former home of William Wordsworth (350 metres), while at Lake Grasmere (1 mile), you can hire rowing boats and visit the lovely waterside tea garden. Nature enthusiasts will enjoy woodland walks at Allan Bank (0.5 miles), where you may spot the resident red squirrels if you're lucky. There are also renowned Lake District walking routes beginning right from your doorstep.

Inside, the property has been thoughtfully arranged across two levels to make the most of its setting. On the ground floor, a spacious sitting room with a large Smart TV, Sky Plus HD and a Wii games console creates a fun and sociable hub, complemented by a shower room and a separate cloakroom with WC. Up the spiral staircase, the open-plan living area will surely impress, with dual-aspect windows framing spectacular views over the lake, village and surrounding scenery. Elegant beams prop the ceiling up overhead, with a series of skylights allowing in plenty of light. There's also a cosy living flame gas fire to keep you toasty in the evening. The stylish kitchen has a sleek appearance with its granite worktops and everything you need for cooking meals, alongside a welcoming dining space with a wooden table. The bedrooms include a king-size room, a twin, and a peaceful double overlooking the garden, all served by a family bathroom with a power shower over an air spa bath and WC.

Outside, in the sunny enclosed garden, sip morning coffee or evening drinks while soaking up the scenery on the furnished terrace. If you're lucky, you'll spy wildlife visitors, including badgers and perhaps red squirrels. An integrated garage offers convenient private parking for one large or two small cars, and there is also a handy boot and drying area for storing muddy walking gear after days exploring the fells.

Had 3 long car-free walks right from the front door. Attractive path through the fields to the heart of Grasmere. Enough books, DVDs, jigsaws, puzzles and games to keep you occupied for the rest of your life (no exaggeration!)

Lovely cottage with wondeful views, sociable open plan living and nightly badger! Kitchen fully equipped, games and books to borrow. Plently of hot water for all and comfy sofas - all great after long and hilly walks. A stroll into Grasmere. Roomy accommodation for six. We have a great time and would recommend.
