For a group holiday with friends or family in pretty Cumbria, stay at this stylish cottage just outside the ancient market town of Dalton-in-Furness (1.5 miles). It sleeps up to ten guests across five beautifully designed bedrooms, making it ideal for celebratory gatherings or reunions. Dalton-in-Furness is home to a great mix of independent shops and eateries, while the sea is just 3 miles away at Barrow-in-Furness, a seaside town known for its excellent indoor market and wide choice of shops and restaurants.

On arrival, a winding path leads through the pretty cottage garden to the front door. The house is brimming with personality, with statement furniture, eye-catching artwork and bold wallpapers paired with quirky soft furnishings. On the ground floor, cook up group meals in the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, which has plenty of worktop space along with a charming window seat overlooking the garden. The lounge has plush seating gathered around a wood burner and TV and opens into a conservatory-style dining room with garden views – fabulous for long meals and celebrations. Two en-suite bedrooms are located on the ground floor – one king-size and one double both with TVs. Head upstairs to find a super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom, a king-size bedroom and a double, all with en-suite facilities and TVs. Outside, the enclosed garden is a dream spot for fresh-air meals, with a patio for BBQs and a lawn for outdoor games. You’ll also have private parking for four cars.

Nearby, head along the coast to Roanhead Beach (2 miles), a wide stretch of sand where you can enjoy blustery walks with sweeping views towards the Lakeland fells. Backing the beach is Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve, a fantastic spot for birdwatchers and anyone who enjoys spending time in unspoilt coastal landscapes.
