This impressive holiday home is a large cottage, sleeping up to ten guests across five comfortable bedrooms and is located in the peaceful village of Ennerdale Bridge. The cottage has views of the surrounding Herdus, Banner, Crag, Knockmurton and Grike fells and is a perfect retreat for groups of families or friends to use as a base to launch into the Lake District. Ennerdale Water is 20 minutes' walk from the cottage and similarly accessible are walking routes up Grike, Cragg and Bowness Fells. Local pubs both serve local ales and great food. A stone's throw from the cottage is a community-owned and run cafe and shop offering good food and drink.

Ennerdale is one of the quietest and most remote valleys in the Lake District. The long deep lake provides a habitat for several rare species. Tall mountains tower over the lake whilst the head of the valley is forested and home to many species including deer, badgers, rare breed Belted Galloway cattle and red squirrels. This impressive holiday home is perfectly located for exploring Ennerdale whilst remaining within scenic driving distance of other Lake District highlights including Cockermouth, Loweswater, Buttermere and the Cumbrian coastline. There are plenty of family friendly attractions including the Lake District Wildlife Park near Bassenthwaite, an aquarium in Maryport, Go Ape at Whinlatter and the Ravenglass railway in Eskdale.

A welcoming and comfortable cottage, the property boasts good sized communal areas. The kitchen, with welcome underfloor heating, is well stocked and features a traditional breakfast table to seat up to eight guests. It has a big electric oven, seven-ring gas hob, a large microwave oven, a huge freestanding fridge/freezer, an additional under-counter fridge and dishwasher. The boot room next to the kitchen contains a washing machine and tumble dryer and is ideal for drying muddy gear and dogs after a day in the fells.

The spacious living room stretches from the front to the rear of the cottage and also contains the dining table, which can seat up to 10 guests. An armchair, two two-seater and one three-seater sofas surround a glorious wood burner set into a brick hearth. A full bookcase of novels and a Smart TV provide the entertainment, so don't forget to bring your Netflix and Prime logins.

There is one double bedroom (named Dent, after a nearby fell) on the ground floor with an en-suite bathroom, featuring a shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail. Perfect for any members of your party with enhanced accessibility needs.

The first floor has four bedrooms, all of which have plenty of storage for clothes and belongings and each first floor bedroom has its own TV as well. Like Dent on the ground floor, all bedrooms have been named after local fells. Crag and Pillar are double bedrooms, both with en-suite bathrooms (including a shower, WC and basin) with views over the village to the fells (Crag) and of the fields behind (Pillar); Herdus and Grike both have two adult twin beds, which can be zipped and linked into super-king-size beds upon request - Herdus has an en-suite bathroom with a shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail and a view over the fields, while Grike's bathroom is not en-suite, but the nearby family bathrooms contains a bath, shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail.

There is a landscaped garden and paved patio with benches and a picnic table, ideal for those who prefer to sit back and enjoy. For those who are keen to explore this area on two wheels, push bikes can be securely stored by the owners. A large gravel driveway allows space for at least six cars to park.

  • 5 bedrooms: 3 double, 2 super-king-size (one can be made up as twins on request at time of booking)
  • 5 bathrooms: 4 en-suite shower rooms, 1 bathroom
  • Large electric oven, seven-ring gas hob, a large microwave oven, large free-standing fridge/freezer, an additional under-counter fridge, dishwasher and Nespresso coffee machine

  • Wood burner in lounge (fuel provided)

Thorn trees is a fabulous place, which I would wholeheartedly recommend. Extremely comfortable, very well equipped with good quality facilities. Our recent stay at Thorntrees as a family of 4, 2 Grandparent's and dog was fantastic. After staying in a lot of venues like this over the years, I have never stayed in one as well equipped as Thorntrees. Not only did it have everything you needed (and more) all of the equipment was top quality/high end. The welcome hamper was great too. The roRead moreoms are specious, visibly clean and very well presented. There is ample room within the property and every bedroom has a bathroom which was great. The property is in an ideal location for familys. There is a cafe seconds away and pub minutes away on foot and a park/recreational area a short walk away. My only drawbacks to this fantastic property is the garden isnt fully enclosed and there is set of stone stairs to access the grassed area of the garden. The owners also live on site attached to the property, which didnt bother us but might bother some. Hide

We stayed at Thorntrees for Christmas week, it was absolutely wonderful. The house is beautiful and has everything you need. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The owners left a lovely welcome hamper and we had a huge Christmas tree in the hallway. We enjoyed a couple of visits to the 2 local pubs, both were very welcoming.
