Full of traditional Lakeland character, this stone-built cottage is a relaxed base for couples or families, plus the family dog. There’s parking, a wood burner and a welcoming pub within walking distance, making it ideal for anyone keen to explore Windermere, Cartmel and the wider Lake District National Park.

The two-storey, terraced cottage is set on a steep village road and has a small front patio where one car can park. When you’ve pulled up and unloaded, step into the rustic, open-plan living space, where ships’ timbers and flagstone floors hint at the property’s long history. Soft seating surrounds a wood burner and Smart TV – an inviting spot in which to unwind after a busy day out. The kitchen and adjacent utility room (one step up) together include everything necessary for preparing tasty holiday meals, and there’s an extending table in the lounge area where you can gather to enjoy them. A ground-floor shower room completes this level. Upstairs, two bedrooms, a double and a twin, provide calm sleeping spaces, finished with whitewashed walls and more of those rugged timbers.

The cottage is located in the tranquil village of Lindale, on the border of the National Park. Surrounded by natural beauty, with walks, cycle trails and other outdoor activities available nearby, it’s only 0.5 miles from a welcoming local pub. Head to elegant Grange-over-Sands, just 2 miles, to explore its shops and walk its long seafront promenade, or to Cartmel, 3.5 miles, for a variety of foodie attractions, from tea rooms to cutting-edge restaurants. At Lakeside, 7 miles away, you can hop on a steamer and see the sights of Lake Windermere. The Aquarium of the Lakes, Go Ape, and the South Lakes Wild Animal Park are all within 17 miles.

We booked at short notice. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Parking very helpful as on a steep hill. There are no shops in the village so come prepared. Great base for lower lakes and Grange over sands
