  • Versatile property sleeping up to eight guests across four varied bedrooms
  • Boasting ground floor bedrooms and wonderful views from all sides
Property code: OC-SZ219

Nestled in the jaws of the incredibly picturesque Borrowdale Valley, is this wonderfully well-equipped and comfortable cottage for eight people. It’s perfectly situated to make the most of all that the village of Grange has to offer, stunning views, a huge range of walks and cycle rides from the door and the crystal-clear river Derwent running through. It’s also just a stone’s throw from a bar should you need a little liquid refreshment after your long walks! It has versatile accommodation making it perfect for families, groups requiring twin bedrooms or parties needing some ground-floor accommodation. This lovely cottage boasts calm, elegant decor throughout, wonderful views from all sides and has a delightful enclosed garden in which to enjoy a sunset glass of wine soaking up the tranquillity.

Grange is a jewel of a village at the south end of Derwentwater, lying at the point where the dramatic steep fell sides of Borrowdale open out to meet the lake. It has access to the highest fells, lying equidistant between the mighty peaks of Scafell Pike and Skiddaw and boasts a staggering array of lowland walks too. Just over a mile away you can catch one of the stately Derwentwater launches and enjoy the views from the water, alternatively why not pack a picnic and hire a kayak or canoe and explore the lake yourself to find a romantic spot to have your lunch? For the more adventurous souls why not head up Honister Pass at the head of the valley to try the wild and woolly Via Ferrata climbing route at Honister Slate Mine, not a jaunt for the faint hearted!

The cottage lies just 5 miles from the Lake District’s adventure capital Keswick. This vibrant market town is a much loved Lake District destination and it’s easy to see why. It boasts a vast array of outdoor shops, cafes and pubs and a popular market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Added to this it has an art deco cinema and the beautifully situated Theatre by the Lake offering a varied programme of plays, comedy and live music throughout the year.

On arrival at the cottage you'll first come to the porch area which has coat hooks and ample space for muddy boots from all of those long Lakeland walks you're sure to do. From here you are greeted with a spacious hallway with beautiful Honister slate floor off which you'll find a handy downstairs WC with yet more hanging space for coats.

To the right of the hallway lies the large living and dining area. This lovely light space is decorated in calm warm colours and boasts five windows out onto the stunning surrounding views. There are three comfy sofas and a TV with Freeview for whiling away relaxing evenings and a large dining table around which to plan or look back on your Lake District adventures or just to sit admiring the views with a cuppa. The very well-equipped modern kitchen has a beautiful black Aga, dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, TV and even its own dedicated wine chiller. Handily it has an opening through to the dining area which opens up the space and makes for more sociable meal preparation. From here there is another porch area leading out the back door. The modern downstairs bathroom has a full size 'p' shaped bath with shower over the bath.

The two downstairs bedrooms are ideal for anyone with mobility issues. There is a king-size room and a super-king-size room with a zip-and-link bed that can be converted into a twin should your party require it. The king-size has a glorious view towards mighty Skiddaw. The super-king-size/twin room has views to Castle Crag and the Borrowdale fells beyond.

Upstairs there are two further rooms with a king-size bed and a super-king-size bed that once Again can be converted to a twin should the need arise. Once again both rooms are decorated in fresh calm colours and both benefit from substantial built-in storage cupboards. The rooms look out onto either side of the valley at the dramatic steep fellsides, offering stunning Summer and Autumn colours. The upstairs landing also leads into a fresh modern shower room with a large shower enclosure with a drencher head.

Outside, the property benefits from a lockable garage which is ideal for bike storage this also has an extra fridge in if needed. There is an enclosed section of the garden which has a wide range of mature plants and a bench with a stunning view all the way down the valley to Keswick and Skiddaw. A perfect place for enjoying the sunset with a glass of wine. Beyond the enclosed area is a wider garden and parking area with a stream running through, a picnic table with parasol, and even a vintage red telephone box.

Tucked at the back of the village of Grange on a very quiet road lies this tranquil cottage. It is warm and welcoming - everything worked well from the Aga to keep the house cosy on rainy days - and we had several ! . Id keep any children ( and my elderly parent) away from using the Aga as it is super hot however we got used to using it pretty quicRead morekly and it was a very cool feature . A superbly stocked kitchen with pretty much every gadget needed for cooking and plenty of plates / silverware . All the beds were very comfortable and rooms a good size . Beautiful views from all the windows - and garden plenty space for parking ( which is hard to come by on many rental properties ) lovely cafe in the village ( walkable) and local farms you can walk to to buy local produce. The best part for us was being able to walk out the door and on to the paths of the fells with lots of directions to go without getting in the car - Amazing! Hide

Gratitude is by far the most well-appointed holiday cottage we have stayed in, and in a perfect location. It was very clean and tastefully decorated throughout. What a great place to stay- in the heart of Borrowdale, lovely walks from the front door, quiet with wonderful views. The house was spacious and extremely well appointed- a lot of careful thought has gone in to create this place. Close to places to eat when we wanted. Keswick and all of the surrounding fells were easily accessible. Thank you

It would have been 5 star throughout if we hadn't had a problem with the Aga which meant we had to have two evening meals at hotels; also it takes very careful management if doing a dinner for eight. Otherwise the cottage is very well equiped. Excellent cottage is superb location.
