Explore the beautiful Lake District from the village that was so loved by children’s author Beatrix Potter. Situated 5 miles from Ambleside, Hawkshead is the perfect destination for anyone seeking to be close to colourful, independent shops, as well as pubs serving homecooked dishes. Sleeping six guests, and also welcoming a pair of their canine companions, this three-bedroom, three-storey house, which was once a police station, is set at the heart of the Cumbrian village. From here, enjoy long walks taking in views of Lake Windermere, or plan day trips to Coniston Water or Grizedale Forest.

Let yourselves into this imposing stone holiday home and follow the hall through into the sunny kitchen/diner. Take turns in whipping up hearty meals with the fresh Lakeland produce you have sourced. Make yourself a cup of coffee in the machine then enjoy it at the table. Find all the appliances you need in the kitchen, plus an extra fridge/freezer beneath the staircase. Spend your evenings in the lounge, watching your favourite programmes on TV or a film on the DVD. Light the wood burner and listen to music on the Hi-Fi. Climb the steep stairs to find a double bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, and a twin on the first floor. A family shower room is also here. Head on up to the floor above to discover another double bedroom with en-suite shower room.

While away an afternoon at the National Trust’s Beatrix Potter Gallery in the village. Visit Wray Castle, 3 miles away, too. Have a day out in Ambleside and take a cruise out on Lake Windermere from the pier at Waterhead to enjoy the stunning beauty of the surroundings.

The cottage is perfectly positioned in the heart of the village. There is a small convenience store across the cobbled street and three traditional pubs in the village too. There are a small number of shops and cafes that are open at various times. The village has traditional Lake District charm and is a fabulous base for walks and sightseeing. TheRead more cottage is excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen and a lovely lounge and log burner. The beds are comfortable and there are plenty of towels provided for the bathrooms. Parking behind the property is a tight squeeze, if you have a large car, but the owners provide a parking permit for the main carpark which is perfect. I would highly recommend the cottage and hope to visit again. Hide

Lovely house, spacious, big rooms. Right in center of Hawkshead, close to shops and pubs. Good walks from town. Hawkshead is very quiet, seems to be more a tourist destination. We enjoyed our stay at Copper Tops .

Amazing location in middle of village. Comfortable but tired house. A lot of stairs so not suitable for those with mobility issues. Very plain bedrooms, basic shower rooms. Large dining kitchen and comfortable lounge.

Excellent family accommodation. Fantastic location right in the centre of Hawkshead close to cafes, pubs, shops and even a pharmacy. Great furnishings and a well equipped kitchen. As it happened it was mild and mainly dry during our stay but it was lovely to be know that we could control the heating if required and stay cosy on wet and cool days.

We did enjoy our stay at Copper Tops in Hawkshead however we found the beds to be quite uncomfortable. Everything we needed to stay in the house was provided and the property was very clean. Hawkshead was good for exploring the Lake District but the people working in the pubs were not welcoming or friendly (they were actually rude and disrespectfulRead more) and the availability of tables in either pub to eat was a challenge. Because of this, we would not recommend Hawkshead as a place to stay. Hide
