The spacious kitchen/diner features monochrome cabinets and worktops and a central dining room for sharing meals. When night falls, head down the hallway to find two comfortable bedrooms, a king-size and a twin, with cohesive colour schemes. A bathroom and a separate WC complete the interior, while outside, you can make the most of warm weather in the enclosed garden, which has patio furniture for al fresco meals and drinks. There’s off-road parking for two cars, along with a handy outhouse for storing bikes.

Lowther Castle and Gardens (8.5 miles) offers dramatic Gothic ruins along with spectacular gardens.
