This compact cottage is the very image of a cosy and traditional Borrowdale retreat nestled in Rosthwaite in this beloved valley. Sleeping four people in two pretty bedrooms and boasting delightful views, it gives visitors a welcoming feeling from the moment you step into its quaint living room. Light the open fire, settle down with a cuppa and plan your fell walking adventures from its comfy sofa. There's everything from the mightiest fell tops to smaller but no less iconic peaks just a stone's throw from the door.

Rosthwaite is in a perfect position from which to explore Borrowdale, one of the most loved of all Lakeland valleys. Surrounded by dramatic peaks and criss-crossed with traditional dry stone walls framing rolling fields and blessed with some excellent watering holes and eateries, it really makes a wonderful place for a Cumbrian break. The crystal clear river Derwent runs nearby, in fact the walk from Rosthwaite to Grange along the river is an absolute must. Why not pack a picnic, find the perfect spot and have a paddle along the way? Further up the valley you can visit Honister Mine visitor centre. Take the mine tour for a rainy day activity or challenge yourself to the Via Ferrata as an adventure!

Picturesque Derwentwater is nearby where you can hire kayaks, paddle boards, sailing and rowing boats to mess about on the water. Alternatively you could take in the views from one of the stately Derwentwater Launches that weave their way around the seven landing stages. Keswick, just 6 miles away, is well known as the Lake District's adventure capital. The town itself has a lovely bustling atmosphere and plenty to do whether you'd like to shop, take in a film, visit a museum or catch a play or concert at the wonderful Theatre By The Lake. However you'd like to spend your stay, this cottage is a sweet and homey base to make the most of your holiday.

Nestled in the hamlet of Rosthwaite this quaint slice of Lakeland history makes a wonderful base to explore the unparalleled walking available in its immediate surroundings.

Guests enter the cottage directly into the cosy living room, it has an old-world feel about it with exposed beams, an open fire with stone surround and a comfy sofa and two armchairs arranged around the Smart TV. An under-stairs cupboard has hanging space for coats and shoes. From the living room there are four steps up to a little snug, a perfect area for relaxing whilst reading a book or watching the Smart TV.

To the rear of the living room is the compact kitchen and dining space. It's equipped with electric hobs, a built-in fan oven, microwave, under-counter fridge, washer/dryer and dining table with bench seating.

Moving upstairs from the living room there's a light, open landing (care should be taken at the top of the stairs due to its slightly open nature) from which you access the bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom is a sweet double room with a small wardrobe for storage and a gorgeous view to Bessyboot. The lovely twin room has a wardrobe with drawers and view over the hamlet of Rosthwaite towards the iconic forms of Castle Crag and Catbells. The bathroom has a traditional white suite with over-bath electric shower.

Outside to the rear there's a gated back yard featuring a raised terrace with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. The views from here are absolutely stunning, what a situation to enjoy a morning cuppa or an evening glass of wine. To the front of the house there is a patio and mature shrubs.

This is a sweet detached cottage, heating and hot water worked really well and were modern installation. Its quite small especially kitchen and double bedroom, but also good value as a result and had everything we needed. Worked fine for two adults. Fantastic location for walking and great views of Rosthwaite Fell. Parking in lay-by was fine, excepRead moret one evening it was full (when all the local residents are back home) and we used the very close National Trust car park overnight, and moved car back to lay-by in the morning, no problem. The cottage and garden is charming, peaceful, traditional and in keeping with the natural surroundings of Borrowdale. The cottage has everything you need and the deep bath is the best and relaxing.

A small but comfortable cottage. It had everything we needed and the location is excellent. Parking was a ok but spots do get taken up by day walkers (despite a sign). Warm in bad weather thanks to the coal fire. Would book again in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay at Larch Cottage and would definitely consider a return visit. We enjoyed our stay in Larch Cottage. There was plenty of space for two, although the double bedroom is quite small. The kitchen is much better equpped than most cottages with loads of crockery, cutlery, good quality pans and other bits. It might be a tight squeeze for 4 people unless 2 were very small. We bagged lots of Wainwrights walking directlRead morey from the front door. Parking was an issue when we arrived on a Friday evening, as the layby up the lane was full. Hide

Fantastic stay at Larch Cottage. Very clean and well appointed throughout. Comfortable lounge and small kitchen. Beautiful views from the courtyard seating area. Lovely walks directly from the cottage. All in a very pleasant stay. No problem with parking 50 yards up road. Please note the freezer area in the fridge is tiny.
