If you are looking for a perfect base for a family or friends' jaunt to Keswick then this characterful holiday home is the ideal spot. This cottage sleeps up to five guests in three comfy bedrooms and has a lovely enclosed garden and a lockable garage for bikes or boats.

It is only a short 10 minute stroll into the centre of Keswick - a bustling and vibrant Lake District town with its art deco cinema, beautiful theatre and wealth of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops. Keswick’s situation on glorious Derwentwater makes it a haven for those who love messing about in boats. Why not pack a picnic, hire a rowing boat and find a secluded beach to enjoy the staggering views?

Not only that but the cottage also borders a fantastic network of paths and cycle ways which means you can quite literally walk out of the back door and in a few minutes be heading up Latrigg and mighty Skiddaw beyond.

So whether you’d like to don your outdoor clobber and venture into the mountains, stroll into town to make the most of the local culture and atmosphere, dip your toes in stunning Derwentwater or just enjoy the peace and quiet of this lovely cottage the property is an ideal launch pad.

On arrival at the house the front door leads into a hall with hanging space for coats and a shoe rack for those muddy boots you'll no doubt get from your Lake District walks. From here you can enter the spacious open-plan living and dining area. This is a great space for relaxing in with two large comfy sofas. The owners have thoughtfully provided a stereo as well as a selection of books, games and a Smart TV. Among the books you'll find a set of beautifully illustrated Wainwright's guides to help you plan your outdoor time in the Lakes.

The room has a lovely large dining table around which you can sit discuss your outings. It even has table mats illustrated with Wainwright's beautiful drawings and information on some of his favourite routes, perfect for inspiring you in your Lake District adventures. It's an ideal spot to sit in the mornings and look out of the glass door onto the enclosed garden which is visited by a wonderful array of birds.

The adjoining kitchen is well equipped with everything you need during your break. It has a dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer and washer dryer. You might get caught up looking out of the kitchen window while washing up. In the winter time you can see through the trees to Latrigg Fell in summer you can enjoy the thoughtfully planned garden with its year round colour and its many flying visitors!

Upstairs you'll find the three bedrooms and bathroom. All have fresh, clean decor and ample storage with wardrobes and dressers. The master bedroom has a lovely wooden double bedstead and a view to the front of the house on to the cherry blossom tree in the front garden. The twin bedroom has zip-and-link beds so if you would like this room made up as a super king bed instead please advise us on booking (and at least two weeks before your arrival). This room looks out to the enclosed garden at the back of the house. The single room also has a view to the front of the house. The light bathroom has a full size bath with electric shower over the bath.

The property boasts its own garage which makes ideal lockable storage for bikes if you'd like to make the most of the staggering array of cycling on offer in the area. The front garden area is open with a seat for resting your weary legs whilst you remove your boots. The rear garden is accessed from the dining area and makes a wonderful quiet haven for outdoor dining with a table and six chairs on the patio area. The garden has been thoughtfully planned with mature flowering shrubs and almost year round colour making it a perfect spot for a sunny morning cuppa or a summer evening glass of wine enjoying the scents of all those wonderful flowers. This garden is enclosed which makes it ideal for small children and just beyond the gate lies the cyclway and footpath which was formerly the railway line. A mere few yards along this is the old station platform which harks back to days of steam engines drawing up and disgorging passengers for their Lake District holidays. Today it's a handy shortcut to Keswick's own Leisure Pool where children will love its slide and wave machine and Fitz Park with its marvellous playground.

Whether you're looking to enjoy all that the town has to offer or you'd like to head straight out into the hills from your back door the property is perfectly placed to allow you to do it.

We had a wonderful week in Keswick, Walker's Rest was good base for many outdoor activities. It's a great location: the beautiful park beside the Greta river, a highlight as we walked into town. The old railway line behind property with level walk to Threfeld. We attended Keswick Convention, at the old Pencil Factory, a short 15 min walk away. GreaRead moret pubs, cafes, shops, walks, hill climbs, fabulous scenery/surrounding countryside. Keswick is a winner on many levels. Thank you - we'll be back! Hide

A great cottage in a great location. Clean and well equipped. Beds were comfortable but bedrooms would benefit from thicker curtains or blackout blinds for a truly relaxing night's sleep.
