This is a property with fabulous character, full of warmth and life. Here you will find a wealth of sumptuous textiles, exposed wooden beams and floorboards, selected stone and slate walls and antique furniture. Built in the 1830s it originally started life as part of the Jennings Brewery (which is still brewing beer to this day), providing accommodation for the workers and stabling for the shire horses. It has been converted to the highest of standards.

The house is situated on the outskirts of the quiet village of Lorton, surrounded by beautiful scenery with a babbling brook running alongside it. The pub in the village has won several awards and serves good food and real ales, there is a village shop which sells locally sourced food for your basics and locally sourced gifts. To top it off it's also the village tea room.

This is walking country at its best with valley walks and mountain paths. Loweswater lake is nearby, with Crummock Water and Buttermere just beyond. Lorton is also by Whinlatter Forest – England’s only true Mountain Forest. There are miles of footpaths and cycle trails, as well as being a great habitat for a variety of wildlife.

The accommodation is accessed via a tiled hallway. The well-equipped kitchen has dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, electric oven and hob, fridge and freezer. The large sitting room is comfortable and warm with a multi-fuel burner, lovely wooden floors with beautiful rugs, plenty of comfortable seating and Smart TV and DVD player. French doors lead out to the patio and garden area. The dining room has antique table and chairs - the perfect place for a meal with friends and family.

Stairs lead from the sitting room to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The master bedroom has twin beds, built-in wardrobes, a window seat and en-suite shower room with large shower cubicle, hand basin and WC. There is a second twin bedroom, a double bedroom and a 3/4 bedroom (which is only suitable for one person) all with fantastic views.

The separate family bathroom has marble floor, bath with shower over, wash basin and WC.

Outside is a pretty patio with garden furniture. The beck, which can be fast flowing at times, runs at the rear of the house. There is a wall between the patio and the stream but it may not be suitable for toddlers as they would need to be supervised.

There is parking for two cars is under the archway by the house.

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. We loved the sound of the water running behind the property. We enjoyed watching Red Squirrel and Dippers from the window. Not all the bedrooms were used but we found our bed very comfortable. The cottage was cosy and warm with everything we needed in the kitchen. The parking under the archway was very Read moretight. Just squeezed in our VW Tiguan. But parking just a few yards down the road was not an inconvenience. Hide

Lovely historic cottage in a great location, warm, well equipped and comfortable with lots of books and local information. Good meal at local pub, borrowed childrens books in the library in the church and the local shop delivered for us. Stickman trail at Whinlatter popular with our 4 year old grandchild.

Absolutely gorgeous cottage in a stunning part of the Lakes. The house was immaculate, and unlike lots of houses in the Lakes, it has brilliant water pressure! Hot showers were no problem. The whole house is super comfortable and we had an absolutely wonderful holiday. We loved the sound of the river right outside the window and the kids loved paddRead moreling in it. Hide

The cottage was clean, cosy and well equipped. The location is great, in the lovely village of High Lorton with a village shop and pub in walking distance. You need to park a little way up the lane but that is fine. As other people have said, the lack of WiFi can be problematic as mobile reception for many phone providers is not great in the vilRead morelage. It wasnt a huge issue for us as our party were also staying in a neighbouring house but may put us off booking again if we were on our own.

Response from holidaycottages.co.uk - Wi-Fi is available at this property, apologies if there was any confusion with this during your stay.
