This wonderful two-storey property in the peaceful hamlet of Haile, on the West Coast of Cumbria, is ideal for friends or families looking for a restful holiday. Situated near the popular St Bees (5 miles), where there are 7 miles of unspoiled beach and endless sand dunes to explore. Calder Bridge is 2.5 miles away, with a tranquil riverside walk alongside the ruins of Calder Abbey.

Step into an elegant and impressive house that features the original bar, dating back to 1826 when it was the local village pub, in the hallway. The 'bar' is a great space to socialise. The large lounge is the hub of the house, where comfortable sofas are set around a wood burner-effect gas fire and Smart TV. Along the hall is the dining room with a glass table and chairs, leading to the beautifully refurbished kitchen with everything you need to prepare home-cooked meals. On the first floor, you will find a king-size bedroom with views of fields. Often, you can spot sheep, cows, and, in springtime, playful lambs. Adjoining this is the games room, ideal for entertaining children and adults alike on a rainy day! There is a bathroom and a separate shower room. Further along the landing is the second bedroom with a double bed and a twin room overlooking the garden. From the back door, a few steps up, is a lawned garden area with seating to enjoy the scenery. The garden is perfect for kids and four-legged friends to run around.

Hikers will love this location for all the nearby walking opportunities; England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, is nearby (13 miles). Enjoy a great family day out discovering the area’s history at Muncaster Castle (11 miles) or travelling on the scenic Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (10.5 miles).

We had a wonderful time at Bucks Head over the Easter break. The property is bright, warm and welcoming, spacious, well equipped, renovated to a high standard and beautifully decorated. In addition to the cosy interior, we enjoyed the well maintained garden and beautiful surroundings with many opportunities for day trips. Thank you again!

We had a fantastic stay over New Year. The house still has some of the original features of the Bucks Head pub with the bar being the star feature. We have stayed at many places over the years but the beds here were the most comfortable weve ever experienced with good quality duvets and pillows. Would definitely go back. Absolutely beautiful stay. Rustic yet also modern. Little out of the way and a drive to most places but so quite and relaxing Lovely back garden when the sun is shining and so many lovely features like the built in bar and a fire in the living room. 10/10 would tay again. Ideal for a family or friends wanting a relaxing peaceful getaway

Very much enjoyed our stay at the Bucks Head. It's very quirky but at the same time very comfortable. As a family of four (two teenagers) it accommodated us easily. As other reviewers point out, there is only one toilet and for more than four people that could be an inconvenience; a separate extra toilet rather than a separate shower might've been Read morea better arrangement, but that was the only (small) gripe. The kitchen was well equipped and living room very comfortable. Hide

Absolutely would return to this vintage cottage (est. 1826). Super cottage filled with character. Lovely location. Great space + great spaces. A lovely house and very well equipt. 2 couples and 2 teenagers over Christmas and we had a lovely time. We were able to park a Big Mini & a van on the front with no issues. We made good use of the bar and pool table, not so much the games room upstairs. Will return on the future.

What a lovely cottage. It had everything that we needed in a fantastic location. Within 30 minutes to beautiful lakes or beaches. A lot of thought has gone into making this cottage welcome and comforting, it also has character. Perfect for the family. We would highly recommend Bucks Head.

Beautiful spacious cottage, we enjoyed our stay. the bar is nice to look at however its a waisted space, as it could be made into a downstairs WC. The shower room is impractical and too small. The rest of the cottage is stunning, the garden is beautiful and totally enclosed. It was spotlessly clean. Only 1 TV, which is ok for some folk however not Read moreso good when the European championship is on. Ive recommended they provide larger towels. This is not a bad review just an honest one. Hide
