Property code: OC-SZ556

This property is a cosy and comfortable cottage with a remarkable Grade II-listed interior with dark wooden beams, wonky walls and an original cast iron fireplace at its heart. There is a lovely enclosed garden (perfect for children) with stunning views of the Lakeland Fells.

The holiday home is an ideal retreat for walkers and visitors looking to get away from it all; there are hundreds of walks right from the door of the cottage, either up onto the highest fells in the Lake District or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass.

The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway is ten minutes walk from the cottage and its steam trains make their way leisurely from Boot along the valley on their 7-mile journey down to the sea.

There are five pubs in the valley, both welcome children and serve real ales and a wide choice of good food.

Eskdale village shop, Eskdale Stores, sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers. The Post Office at Boot also sells a variety of goods including home-made sandwiches.

Tucked away in the Eskdale Valley, this lovely holiday property is a great base to explore the quieter side of the Lake District. The cottage is located in Boot but is set back from the street through a gateway and is private and not overlooked but still with the advantage of being just a few minutes walk from the pub - a great place to sample some of excellent lakeland ales and fantastic food.

The sitting room is warm and comfortable with an open fire and reading material provided, along with radio and CD player. There is a TV with freesat and DVD player. There is also dining for six here.

From the sitting room is the kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is also a dining table for four here.

The kitchen leads to the bathroom which has a bath with handheld shower, toilet and sink. There is a washer dryer in the large bathroom utility cupboard.

The stairs lead from the sitting room to three bedrooms upstairs. There is a king-size bedroom with en-suite shower room (shower cubicle, WC and basin), a double bedroom and a twin bedroom.

Outside there is a lovely enclosed garden, with a patio and garden table and chairs, which has outstanding views of the surrounding Eskdale fells.

A lovely old house (tall members of our group bumped heads on low lintels a few times!) with comfortable beds and sofas and a very lovely enclosed garden with comfy chairs and shade, safe for children to play in. We got caught out by the 'no towels supplied', and the local inn we hired towels from said that happens often, so be better prepared thanRead more we were! Situation couldn't be bettered for big mountains, river, Ratty train, pubs. Just lovely. Hide

Excellent week spent at Whillanside in picturesque Boot, Eskdale. Cottage has all necessary amenities required for an enjoyable stay. Great cottage in a fabulous location. The garden is perfect . The only issue is parking with room for one car. The Boot wouldnt allow us to park there and I had a message put on my windscreen for parking outside of Orange Hill Cottages.
