Enjoying an elevated position overlooking the peaceful hamlet of Nether Wasdale in the dramatic Wasdale Valley, this cottage provides accommodation for ten people. There are outstanding views from the large living room windows towards the famous Wasdale screes, and it is ideally located for exploring some of England's highest and most rugged mountain scenery.

There are two excellent pubs within a minute's walk from the property, one of which has its own microbrewery. There is also a riverside cafe and farm shop only a 5-minute walk away. Wastwater, England's deepest lake, is only a couple of miles away, as is the view along the lake towards the mountains of Great Gable, Yewbarrow and Scafell, which was voted as Britain's best on TV a few years ago.

Just a 10-minute drive away at the head of the valley is a famous inn, as well as England's highest mountain Scafell Pike and its smallest church, St Olaf's. For daily provisions there is a well-stocked village store three miles away in the village of Gosforth.

Steps lead to the front door with an entrance hallway which opens out to the open-plan sitting room and dining room. This is a splendid room with large windows giving excellent views over the garden towards the Wasdale screes, and there is also a SkyTV with DVD. Wasdale is the perfect place to see the brightest of stars at night – a telescope is provided to take advantage of this.

The kitchen overlooks the same aspect as the sitting room and offers similarly excellent views. It is fully equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, under the counter fridge with small freezer compartment, dishwasher and plenty of storage space. There is an additional full-size fridge/freezer in small pantry adjoining the kitchen. The washing machine and tumble dryer are tucked away under the stairs in the lower hallway.

The kitchen also provides access to the lower ground floor to the twin bedroom with en-suite shower room, with WC. There is also an additional shower room with WC. The games room on this floor has Sky TV, a second TV, a Playstation 4, pool table, darts board, jigsaw table and comfy seating.

On the upper ground floor are further bedrooms - one with king-size bed, one double, a single and a family room which has double bed and an additional single bed. The family bathroom is also on this floor and has a bath with separate walk in shower and WC. All of the bedrooms have TVs all connected to Sky. Three of the TVs also have built in DVD players.

The gardens are extensive and have several sections to them. The hot tub has fantastic views to the Wasdale fells, there is garden furniture for al fresco dining, a lower lawn is a great place to play football and there is a secret bamboo garden too!

We absolutely loved our stay at this cottage. The views were out of this world. We were 4 adults and 3 children and there was ample space in the cottage, with a lovely big kitchen and living area and the games room was a hit with the kids. The garden was massive and the kids loved playing football and using the hammock. The hot tub was fab Read moretoo and the views from there were amazing. There were three great showers, two were downstairs but that didn't matter too much. The owner checked in with us by phone on arrival to make sure everything was ok which was nice. We really had the best time and is up there with one of the best cottages we've ever stayed in (and we've stayed in a fair few). Would highly recommend. Hide

Fantastic property, is a little dated and worn but is still good value for money. A lick of paint can make a nice first impression on a property.

We celebrated our Golden Wedding anniversary here with our children and families, so six adults, 3 children and 1 dog - we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The games etc for the kids and the hot tub for the grownups were ideal. The cottage is very spacious, well equipped, beautifully appointed and superbly located. The excellent Strand Inn is a very shorRead moret walk away plus the lovely Sawmill Cafe. There also a lovely walk to the quieter end of Wastwater that avoids the road. Highly recommended. Hide

It was a lovely cottage out in Nether Wasdale, spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset over Scafell Pike. Isolated but with plenty near by to do if you drive or hike.
