  • Two storey apartment in a townhouse-style property with off-road parking
  • Just a short stroll from the front door into the beautiful town centre of Keswick with plenty of shops or restaurants
  • An excellent destination for exploring the stunning Derwentwater
Property code: OC-SZ132

This is a spacious apartment with a town-house feel located just a minute's walk from Keswick town centre. It sleeps up to four guests across two bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite bathroom. Tastefully decorated in modern muted tones, the bedrooms are at basement level, meaning that the view of St John's Church across the road is reserved for those relaxing in the spacious open-plan living room, kitchen and dining area. Unusually for Keswick, the apartment has an off-street private parking bay.

Keswick is a charming market town in the Lake District National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is surrounded by mountains and the town makes a perfect base for launching into the Lakes, whether it be on a downhill mountain bike, climbing icy rock faces or a gentle stroll along a lake shore. There is plenty to do for grown ups and children, including the Cumberland Pencil Museum, Keswick Museum and Art Gallery, Keswick Spa leisure pool, at least two climbing walls, the Alhambra cinema, the Theatre by the Lake, crazy golf and various marinas on Derwent Water.

Not many self-catering apartments can boast a family-friendly comfortable space with adventure, relaxation and culture on the doorstep, but - put quite simply - this cottage has it all.

While the front door faces onto St John's Street, most guests will access the apartment  via the back door from the private car park. The back door opens to a communal hallway, where guests should turn left, walk down the stairs and turn right to door no.1 opposite the lift. Here, guests will find themselves in the basement with the two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the same floor.

The double bedroom features a wardrobe, chest of drawers and an en-suite bathroom, containing an shower over the bath, basin, heated towel rail and WC. The twin bedroom has two single beds (which can be zipped together to make a double), a chest of drawers and wardrobe. There is a walk-in shower, basin, heated towel rail and WC in the separate bathroom.

Climbing the stairs will take guests up to the ground floor, where one large open-plan kitchen, living and dining room is located. A stylish quality is obvious in these rooms, where natural materials and sophisticated muted tones dominate. The living room contains a leather two-seater sofa and two matching armchairs. The kitchen contains an electric over and four-ring electric hob, a microwave, tall fridge/freezer, a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The dining table seats four people and a window seat looks over the car park towards the peaks of the Skiddaw mountain range.

A travel cot is available, as is a booster seat for infants.

Our experience with this property was mixed. We liked the main room (on the ground floor), which was bright and spacious, with a pleasant outlook at front and back. But we found the bedrooms and bathrooms (down a narrow flight of stairs in the basement) sparsely furnished and gloomy, with almost no natural light in the front bedroom. And the basemeRead morent was always cold: we needed to put on the heating even despite the warm weather. But the beds were comfortable, the showers hot, and the flat reasonably quiet; we weren't disturbed by traffic noise. The worst thing was the kitchen, which was totally inadequate. We found it just about OK for making tea and for heating up ready-cook meals, but we struggled with most of our food prep, mainly because of the almost complete lack of any usable work surface. The best thing about the flat was its location: just a short walk to the lake and to the shops and cafes in the town centre, and just a little further to the supermarket and bus station. We've booked several holidays over the years with Holiday Cottages / Sally's Cottages. We have always found the staff friendly and helpful, and the booking process efficient. We will use them again in the future, but we won't be returning to this particular flat. Hide

Excellent - although no outside private space, but given this is an apartment, fine. Please note that you will have to walk a short distance to and from your car with luggage, but not a deal breaker.

Great location close to town centre, very quiet and comfortable. Car park was very useful with busy street parking. Apartment was warm and cosy, well appointed with kitchen equipment. We had everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner and the decorated tree was a welcome touch. A really lovely apartment for our long stay.

Fabulous flat and probably the best selection of cutlery/crockery/cooking equipment weve seen in a holiday let! Real pleasure to stay and will book again for future walking holidays in Keswick.

This is a lovely property, the third time Ive stayed here. The beds are nice and comfy and having two bathrooms and a car parking space makes all the difference. Very convenient to all amenities, and the lake/walks etc. all in all a great experience.

Wonderful property. Lots of room, beautifully appointed and equipped. Comfortable beds, excellent bathrooms. Location is superb, as it is so close to the centre of Keswick (2 minutes walk). We'd stay there again without question......

Very well equipped apartment done to a high standard. We wanted for nothing. Bathrooms really nice with a powerful shower in the shower room (We didn't use the one over the bath). Beds comfortable and plenty of storage in the rooms. Only downside was the hill from the town.

'Reply from holidaycottages.co.uk - ThanRead morek you for your lovely review. Just to clarify for future guests, while there is a slight incline from town, its not quite a hill, and we hope it didnt detract from your overall experience.'
