The area has plenty of interesting folk tales too, from the immortal fish that Wordsworth believed lived in Bowscale Tarn to the spectral army that were once claimed to have been seen marching along Souther Fell. The neighbouring village of Mungrisdale has a popular pub, perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink after a day out on the fells - and comparing notes on interesting sightings!
