This is a fantastic, spacious cottage set in the beautiful countryside around Witherslack at the back of Whitbarrow Fell. Laid out over three floors, with five bedrooms and four bathrooms, a fantastic kitchen/diner and a lovely living room complete with wood burner, there’s plenty of space for families and groups of friends to gather together. As well as all this, the cottage also has a fabulous games room, plenty of parking and a wonderful large garden.

Witherslack is a beautiful rural area. Surrounded by wonderful scenery, you’ll be excited to explore the country roads and local footpaths that criss-cross the area, or bring your bikes with you and head out on two wheels instead. The area is a haven for a wide variety of flora and fauna; the Whitbarrow Nature Reserve is close by too so be sure to keep your eyes peeled whilst you’re out and about. For those with an interest in history and gardens, a visit to Sizergh Castle or Levens Hall, both a 10-minute drive away, and Holker Hall with its beautiful gardens is a 20-minute drive away, are a must. Fancy an evening out? Treat yourselves to a delicious meal at the Michelin-starred L’Enclume restaurant in nearby Cartmel, a pretty village that’s also home to the famous sticky toffee pudding!

Tucked away but still within easy access of the South Lakes and Cumbrian Coast, there’s plenty of choice for days out. Enjoy a lakeside picnic at the National Trust-owned Fell Foot Park, sample the great selection of bars and restaurants on offer in Windermere village or head to Bowness for some retail therapy. Families will love all of the activities on offer at Brockhole and a cruise around Windermere on the popular launch is a must to take in the water from a different perspective. Walk along the promenade at the quiet seaside town of Grange-over-Sands or head to popular Morecambe, where you can sign up for a guided walk across the famous sands (but please do not venture out on your own) before indulging in an ice cream - a must for a day by the sea!

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and offering spacious accommodation for up to ten people, this is a fantastic home from home. Head inside and it is sure to delight.

The accommodation is laid out over three floors. The porch on the ground floor is an ideal place for storing coats and boots before continuing into the spacious hallway. At the back of the house is the fantastic kitchen/diner. Light, bright and airy, the kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, handy microwave, two larder-style fridges side by side and built-in dishwasher. The large dining table is positioned in the bay window - talk about dining with a view!

A useful utility room houses the washing machine and tumble dryer, should you wish to make use of these during your stay. There’s also a handy built-in freezer and an extra WC in here too.

Across the hallway is the wonderful living room, which runs the full length of the house. There is plenty of inviting seating for ten people, arranged in two separate areas. The first is arranged in front of the Smart TV and wood burner, a perfect spot for cosy evenings in. To the other end of the room are the remaining sofas and armchairs, a lovely bright space, ideal for relaxing with a good book or to pore over maps to plan your next adventures.

Four of the five bedrooms can be found downstairs. Though technically on the lower ground floor, these rooms are still light, bright and airy, with lovely views over the garden.

First up is a lovely double bedroom, with beautiful wooden floorboards and French doors which open onto a peaceful, private courtyard. The en-suite bathroom (with WC, wash basin and bath with shower over) and dressing room, add a real sense of luxury to this bedroom suite. The second double bedroom is at the opposite end of the lower ground floor; another pretty, bright room with its own en-suite shower room (with WC, wash basin and modern shower cubicle), this double room is just as delightful as the first.

The remaining two bedrooms on the lower-ground floor are both twin rooms which can be made up as king-size on request at the point of booking; built-in wardrobes provide plenty of storage space and there are lovely views over the surrounding woodland beyond the garden. There is a fantastic family bathroom on this floor too; with a WC, washbasin and bath with shower over, all tastes are catered for here, whether you prefer a relaxing soak in the tub or a refreshing shower.

Upstairs on the first floor you'll find the fifth and final bedroom. With its own dressing area and an en-suite bathroom (with WC, wash basin and bath with shower over), this king-size bedroom is a real retreat. Double doors with a pretty Juliet balcony have a lovely outlook over the garden and countryside beyond, so why not bring your morning cuppa back to bed and indulge in a long lie in - you are on holiday after all.

Also on the first floor is a fantastic games room. With a pool table, table football and TV  it's sure to be a hit with children of all ages!

Outside is a delightful garden. The large lawn area to the rear of the cottage is equally suited to running off any extra steam or for finding a peaceful corner to relax with a good book. Outdoor furniture is provided too, perfect for a spot of al fresco dining. The garden has wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and is frequently visited by a wide variety of birds and other wildlife.

Perfect cottage for a large family gathering especially the mix of parents, grandparents and children that we had. Lots of space, including storage space, really well organised but not over-fussy - all the equipment needed for a self-catering holiday and all of high quality, with the extra bonus of excellent pool and football tables. Great garden, Read moreand superb bicycle rides from the front door, of all distances and terrains. And this is all before you have days away from the immediate area, with lots of family choices within easy distances. First class holiday - helped by sunshine for Easter week. Hide

The cottage was well equipped, spacious and great for a group get together. The games room was fun especially in poor weather. We went for my 60th birthday with family of all ages and had a great time. Plenty of space for everyone to do their own thing.

We had an amazing time at Rockwood during the Christmas week. The location was great and just enough off the beaten track but also close enough to local amenities and the lakes generally. The house was very well appointed and equipped and the garden was amazing which our dogs loved. The games room was a bonus with pool and table football.

We had a wonderful few days at this comfortable, well equipped cottage. The owner had made sure it was beautifully warm on our arrival. The kitchen was well equipped and roomy. The games room was well used! We loved the location in terms of a variety of walks from the house and plenty of different things to do in the area. Although we didnt use theRead more outside areas and garden, given it was January, they looked very attractive. Hide

We had a lovely family break for a long weekend at Rockwood. We were 10 adults and the cottage had plenty of everything in the kitchen. Beds were comfy and the games room brought lots of fierce pool competitions. Garden would be lovely in the summer and there were great walks around for the dog. Handy location for everywhere in the South lakes.
