  • Take a day trip to the wild and dramatic Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Property code: OC-SZ037

This beautiful period townhouse is located a short walk from the Georgian market town of Cockermouth. Laid out over three floors, inside you'll find spacious accommodation for up to eight people. Off the hallway are the large living room and bright dining room. At the back of the house is the great kitchen which leads onto a delightful breakfast room. On the first floor you'll find the fabulous family bathroom and two of the four bedrooms, a twin and a king-size with its own en-suite shower, and up on the first floor are the remaining two bedrooms, a double and a king-size. The cottage also has an enclosed rear yard, and two dogs are welcome too.

The charming town of Cockermouth has much to offer. Poetry fans will love a visit to Wordsworth House, the childhood home of William Wordsworth. Families will love the nearby Lake District Wildlife Park, whilst adults can enjoy a tour and tasting at Jennings Brewery in the town centre. Take a scenic drive to Whinlatter Forest, where there’s a choice of nine walking trails and three mountain bike trails, or you can even walk with an alpaca for something a bit different! There is a great selection of independent shops for a spot of retail therapy and plenty of different eateries to try out during your stay too.

Popular Keswick is just a 20-minute drive away, perfect for a day out! It’s known as the adventure capital of the North Lakes, and you can sign up for an activity with one of the local adventure companies. Have a go at ghyll scrambling and canyoning or spend the afternoon raft building on Derwentwater. Head west for a peaceful walk around beautiful Loweswater or continue onwards to the coast; enjoy a seaside stroll along the pebble and sandy beach at Allonby whilst taking in the breathtaking views of the Solway Firth. Both the coast and the Lake District are within easy reach, so a stay in Cockermouth means you're perfectly placed for exploring both.

Four shallow steps lead up to the front door of this impressive home from home, which take you into the spacious hallway. At the front of the cottage is the lovely living room, with period features, an original pretty feature fireplace and a large bay window. There is stylish seating and a TV for entertainment, or why not choose the seat in the bay window and watch the world go by? The bright dining room has a large wooden farmhouse-style table, ideal for hearty homecooked meals whilst catching up on the day’s events.

At the back of the cottage is the fantastic kitchen, with beautiful slate worktops and sleek units. You’ll find an electric range-style oven with gas hobs, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, handy microwave, toaster and the all-important kettle. Beyond the kitchen, up two steps, is a delightful breakfast room, perfect for morning coffee. Two steps up from the breakfast room is a little seating area, a lovely spot for escaping with a good book.

Also on the ground floor is a modern shower room, with WC, washbasin and shower cubicle.

At the top of the stairs, on the first floor is the gorgeous family bathroom. Alongside the WC and stylish washbasin, there's a modern shower cubicle and a fabulous free-standing, clawfoot bath, perfect for enjoying a relaxing soak. The washing machine and tumble dryer are hidden away in a cupboard in the bathroom, and there's also another separate WC next door.

Also on the first floor are two beautiful bedrooms. First up is the lovely twin room, with pretty metal-framed single beds. There's also a handy wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage. At the front of the cottage is the first king-size bedroom. The large sash windows flood the room with light and give a delightful outlook over the rooftops to the countryside beyond. The vintage wardrobe and chest of drawers provide plenty of storage, and there's also an en-suite shower and washbasin tucked around the corner.

Onwards and upwards to the second floor, where you'll find the remaining two bedrooms. The charming double room has a lovely outlook over the rear of the cottage, whilst the spacious king-size room is to the front and has views of the surrounding countryside. Both these bedrooms have plenty of storage too.

Outside the cottage is a pleasant, enclosed yard. A real sun trap with an outdoor table and chairs, this is a lovely spot to relax and unwind after a day out and about. On-street parking is available, just a short walk from the cottage.

A very comfortable and well equipped place to stay that really suited our needs. The roll top bath was a lovely luxury after a day of long walks in the peaks and around the lakes. Would highly recommend.

Very comfortable and clean house, excellent facilities, very well equipped. The location is great, just a short walk into Cockermouth. Our dogs enjoyed Harris Park and the riverside walks as well as our longer walks further afield. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would love to return in the future.

We had a great time but the property was very dusty with loads of cobwebs that had obviously been there for a long time and the downstairs bathroom was unusable. Parking was a bit of an issue as there were 7 of us so we had 2 cars. Overall though we would return.
