A delightful cottage for six, nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, also within reach of the Lake District, perfect for a family seeking a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom.

This cottage is a gorgeous period property for up to six people in the peaceful hamlet of Mason Gill in the Yorkshire Dales, once home to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It has welcoming and comfortable accommodation, stylish decor, far reaching views and bags of character to charm you. Should you have members of your party with limited mobility, it makes an ideal location with a perfect ground floor bedroom and shower room. The cottage also suits families with its sweet, enclosed garden and second living room. Ideal for teens and tweens to commandeer as their own!

Mason Gill is a charmingly sleepy little hamlet with plenty of outdoor adventures to be had on the doorstep. If you're keen to don your walking boots then why not take a circular walk to the 'Cheese Press Stone' high above the hamlet? Along the way, you will pass one of the 'Sheepfold' art installations by renowned landscape artist Andy Goldsworthy. Fell walkers will be delighted that the Yorkshire Three Peaks are just 6 miles from the door. Potholers are spoilt for choice and cyclists will find a wealth of quiet roads and bridleways to explore with a huge choice of routes - some easy, some more challenging. For the less ambitious you could simply head to nearby Thornton-in-Lonsdale and reward yourself with a pub lunch at the Marton Arms!

If you'd like to explore slightly further afield there's plenty to do. Little Barras' situation on the western side of the Yorkshire Dales and within easy reach of the Lake District makes it a fantastic springboard for exploration. Nearby is the fascinating White Scar Cave system near Ingleton or you could follow the Ingleton Waterfalls Trail from the village. Railway buffs will be delighted by the proximity to the scenic Settle to Carlisle Railway, which you can hop aboard at Ribblehead Station less than 10 miles away or just enjoy the view of the magnificent Ribblehead Viaduct. In the other direction, the old market town of Kirkby Lonsdale sits above Devils Bridge across the Lune and boasts many independent shops and excellent places to eat.

Sleeping up to six people in three delightful bedrooms it's a tranquil haven for a family or small group to explore this lovely area. It boasts a lovely ground floor bedroom with its own sitting room for any members of your party with more limited mobility.

The owners have taken advantage of lockdown to improve the house still further. It has a new slate roof, and several rooms are freshly painted. New photos will be uploaded soon.

On arrival at the rear of the property guests enter into a porch with plenty of space for your muddy walking boots. There's a sitting room to the right, which makes a lovely second living area for the children or teens to commandeer. There's a desk in here should you have brought work along with you on your trip, just don't let the lovely views put you off! It's a charming room with a sofa, two armchairs, an electric stove-style fire and a TV with DVD player and a stereo. Beyond this is the ground floor double bedroom, which is a gorgeous space with a Mediterranean feel about it due to its vibrant blue colour scheme and shuttered windows, there's a chest of drawers for storage and two windows looking out over a panorama of fields.

Moving back into the main house you'll find a downstairs WC and shower room with an electric shower in a corner enclosure as well as a spacious utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, upright freezer, sink, ceiling airer and plenty of space for your outdoor gear.

The lovely double-height kitchen has been well thought-through to make the most of light, space and the characterful details of the building. It has stylish hand-crafted blue units and is well equipped with an Elan range oven with five ceramic hobs, a microwave, dishwasher, fridge, coffee percolator and under-stairs breakfast table.

The main open-plan living and dining area is beyond here. This gorgeous room has exposed beams, parquet floors, deep set windows with stone sills. It's furnished with three beautiful deep sofas and a velvet armchair arranged around the fireplace and large Smart TV linked to ultra-fast broadband. As with the rest of the house there is well-chosen art adorning the walls and a thoughtful colour scheme. The large dining table comfortably sits eight and makes a great place for enjoying long post-dinner conversations about your outdoor adventures. There is an electric stove-style log-effect heater in the distinctive fireplace.

Back through the kitchen and upstairs to the lovely light landing now. The master bedroom is a lovely light dual aspect room with a subtle purple colour scheme and a view to the gardens. It has a king-size wooden bedstead, built-in wardrobes and a large chest of drawers. The next room has a calming green colour scheme and two windows. There is a modern wooden double bedstead, a wardrobe and drawers for storage and a comfy chair for looking over the front gardens. Lastly to the upstairs family bathroom which has a WC, vanity unit and traditional claw-foot bath with shower attachment.

Moving outside there's a lovely lawned area to the front of the house and an enclosed west facing garden to the rear, where there are mature shrubs and garden furniture on a gravelled terrace for enjoying the peace, quiet and birdsong, while on a clear day admiring the view to the Lakeland fells. Please do be aware that the garden is not escape-proof!

Absolutely bloomin marvellous. Beautiful area with lots to do but fabulously quiet in the cottage. Everything you could need plus some. Back room was soooo comfortable. Didn't want to come home.

Great location for walking and comfy cottage in a secluded quiet hamlet. If I was being picky. Take condiments and oil if cooking. Bit chilly first thing as heating not on overnight, but plenty of hot water. Garden not secure for dogs - back gate will not close if a car is parked. Overall a lovely cottage with plenty of space.

Lovely stone cottage, spacious and comfortable. Tucked away with lovely views across the countryside. Very peaceful, but close to some great walks and a choice of some lovely pubs to dine in. We really enjoyed our time and would recommend to friends.

This cottage is in a great location and we had a lovely week, mainly walking - it is excellently located for the 3 peaks and more, with easy access to the main road. Spacious house, lots of room , comfy beds, warm when the heating was turned up, plentiful hot water, superb location for walkers. One thing to be aware of - whilst the kitchen is well-stocked equipment-wise, there is no food. Some teabags that are nearing their sell-by date, a tiny bit of sugar, no coffee, no salt, pepper, oil etc. I know we shouldRead moren't expect these things but it's a long time since I rented a house that had none of them. Also no coffee machine, just a cafetiere. Hide

A beautiful cottage at a nice quiet location. We enjoyed our holiday absolutely (and had been lucky to drive home just one day before the snow storm tackled West Yorkshire)
