This attractive holiday homeis a beautiful cottage for five people, located in the charming South Lakes village of Backbarrow. With an open-plan living-dining-kitchen area on the ground floor, the accommodation is super sociable, perfect for getting together with family and friends. Also on the ground floor is the fabulous family bathroom, with a wet room-style shower and feature roll-top bath. Up the stairs on the first floor you'll find the three bedrooms - there are two gorgeous king size rooms and a delightful single. To the front of the cottage is a pretty enclosed garden and at the rear is a lovely patio garden with outdoor furniture. As well as parking for two cars, there's also a wonderful games shed at the end of the drive that's sure to be a hit with children and adults alike!

Backbarrow sits on the banks of the River Leven and clues to this area's industrial heritage can be found all around. Follow the river through the village to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, built to transport coal and iron inland from the coast, now a popular tourist attraction where the trains take you through scenic countryside to the bustling Bowness-on-Windermere. Another great attraction on the doorstep is the Lakeland Motor Museum. It makes a fascinating way to spend the day and has an excellent riverside cafe for lunch with a view.

Why not spend a day exploring Windermere, a short drive away? Indulge in some retail therapy or enjoy a cruise around the lake to experience the landscape from a different perspective. Head north east to magnificent Coniston Water where Donald Campbell attempted to break the water speed record in his jet engine boat, Bluebird mk II. There are plenty of fantastic walking and cycling opportunities here, from the mighty Coniston Old Man to gentler woodland and lakeshore rambles. Spend a day exploring the stunning southern coast of Cumbria, with its wide horizons and fresh coastal air it's the perfect place to truly unwind.

Leave coats and boots by the door before continuing onwards into this charming cottage. The open-plan living-dining-kitchen area is a wonderful social space. At the front is the living area - with its inviting L-shaped sofa positioned around the cosy wood burner, it's the perfect place for relaxing evenings in. For entertainment, there's a Freesat TV. The gorgeous dining area is full of character, with exposed brickwork and a framed map of the National Park, centred on the house – perfect for planning trips and walks. Gather round the dining table for convivial mealtimes swapping stories about the day's events over a hearty home cooked meal. Overlooking the rear garden is the modern country style kitchen. Well equipped with an electric oven, induction hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, handy washer/dryer and dishwasher, the kitchen is sure to delight the cooks in the group! Perch at the breakfast bar, perfect for keeping the chef company.

The family bathroom can also be found on the ground floor. An oasis of calm, as well as the expected WC and wash basin there's a fantastic wet room-style shower and a fabulous free standing, roll top both. Whether you prefer an invigorating shower or an indulgent soak in a beautiful bath, all tastes are catered for! An extra separate WC next door completes the ground floor. A separate utility room offers a washer/dryer and Belfast sink – perfect for cleaning muddy boots!

Head up the stairs to the first floor and you'll find the three bedrooms. There are two beautiful king-size bedrooms, both with gorgeous metal bedframes and quirky character features. Last but by no means least is the single bedroom with extra long 6'6' bed. A lovely light room, you're sure to feel instantly relaxed.

At the front of the property is a pretty enclosed garden. With a wooden bench, it's the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by with a cup of tea. To the rear is a delightful patio garden, with a shaled area with table and chairs and a further raised paved patio with a picnic bench. Enjoy dining alfresco out here, or simply relax out here with a good book for a peaceful few moments. A real treat at the house is the addition of a games shed tucked away at the end of the drive - this fantastic bonus space is sure to delight children and adults alike! With table tennis table and a dart board, it's the perfect place to escape to on a wet afternoon. We had a wonderful stay at this property and would happily recommend it. The location in the South Lakes is excellent, making it easy to explore both the eastern and western areas, as well as enjoy nearby walks. The bedrooms were comfortable, and we particularly appreciated the added convenience of the lobby and second toilet. We also enjoyed a lovely meal at the local pub, The Anglers Arms. The staff were friendly and helpful, though it is quite a busy spot with both locals and visitors, so booking ahead is definitely recommended. Hide

A beautiful little house in the south Lakes area. We loved the decor and the added books and games. We also found it very comfortable and a good base to explore from especially being so close to the steam train, motor museum and Lakeside attractions at the southern point of Windermere.

A beautiful and cosy cottage. A real home from home. We had a car so could drive north to get to Windermere and Grasmere and other lakes. Take salt, pepper, tea bags and milk etc as nothing there in that sense.
