Embrace a quintessential staycation from the vantage point of this traditional property that’s perched on the eastern shores of Lake Windermere. Boasting timber beams, roaring fires and an array of walks from your doorstep, your accommodation sleeps five guests along with three dogs. Venture off to admire Wray Castle, discover charming Ambleside (4.5 miles), and spend some time navigating the pretty streets of Hawkshead (2.5 miles).

The heart of the home is certainly the lounge, a marvellous social space that’s kept toasty by the open fire. Snuggle up on the sofas and put the TV, DVD or CD players to good use, or simply relax with hot chocolate and idle chatter about your day. The farmhouse-style kitchen is a delightful base for all those hearty meals you’ll soon be tucking into around the table. There’s a range cooker and gas hob alongside all the essentials for rustling up a feast, plus the additional wood burner is a sheer treat. At bedtime, ascend the stairs and you’ll find three bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite, but there is also a family bathroom with a roll-top bath. Outside, the large garden leads down to a babbling stream and a series of small waterfalls.

Windsurfing, kayaking, and sailing are available locally as are fishing and golf, but you’ll also have Go Ape in Grizedale Forest 5.5 miles away for a treetop adventure. Delve further into the area’s literacy connections as you explore beautiful Hill Top (4 miles) of Beatrix Potter fame and spend some time wandering around the shores of peaceful Esthwaite Water 3 miles away.

The cottage is fully equipped and in a great location for peace and quiet. Everything worked as designed. The garden is very generous for the dogs and there is lots of woodland surrounding the property. Lake access is easy and very comfortable.

The location of The Lodge was lovely. Down a quiet lane surrounded by woodland. The garden was enclosed so perfect for a dog. It was a short walk to Lake Windermere from the house which was a nice surprise. The kitchen diner was very spacious for 5 of us and had under floor heating. Perfect location for dog owners, very large secluded garden. Minimal through traffic leading to a wonderful sense of quiet. Fantastic kitchen setup with enough space for the whole family.

We had a wonderful stay for Christmas and New Year. The house was decorated beautifully. The garden is huge and enclosed for dogs and kids. Kitchen was well equipped for cooking. Sky TV was handy to amuse the kids when we got back in the afternoons. Ambleside is a short 10min drive away with great shops, pubs and other amenities including the FerryRead more. The holiday cottage was an absolute dream. A lovely cottage in a peaceful location. A really good base for exploring the area. Garden was large and dog proof. Would definitely consider booking again. Tall people watch out for low doorways but we're talking 6'2 plus - it's a cottage after all!

The cottage is tranquil and the patio is a sun trap. The kitchen has plenty of equipment. The main bathroom is good. The garden wasnt 100% dog secure (couple of fencing fixs required). The beds were a bit hard for me. Remember its a v old cottage so as a 6ft4 man I banged my head a few times on door frames and in the en-suite! A very comfortable and enjoyable stay at the Lodge - very relaxing environment The weather was kind to us so we made good use of the lovely garden and enjoyed walks along the lake to Wray Castle. The property is beautiful, quiet and private. Its garden is perfect for the children and dog to play in. Just down the road is the start of a walk all the way along the lake to Wray castle. Had a lovely stay at the lodge nice cosy cottage with a beautiful big garden and very peaceful surroundings lovely to relax in and enjoy the birds and watch the squirrels playing in the trees opposite. We were fortunate to get nice weather but did still light the fire in the lounge on an evening which was very inviting. Only criticism is garden is Read morenot secure for smaller dogs we had to use garden furniture to block off the gates so ours couldn't escape Hide

Lovely cosy cottage,nice big kitchen that leads in to the garden with views of lake windermere. Plenty of walks you could do from the cottage without needing to use your car. The only negative thing I could say about the cottage is that if you have a more adventurous dog they can get out of the garden

We had a really excellent holiday at The Lodge. It is cosy, clean and flexible accommodation with a fab garden. It was lovely and warm on arrival and we appreciated the biscuits! The pictures really don't do justice to how lovely it is. The kitchen leads on to the patio which is filled with birds if you take some seed with you. Lovely cottage as per pictures, large secure garden which our two Newfoundlands loved. Lovely decorations for Christmas gave it a real homely feel. You couldnt fault anything it was fantastic, from walking in to a pre heated kitchen dinner that led out into the huge garden, to the stand alone bath and the 3 coal fire places. The Lodge cottage is a beautiful well equipped relaxing cottage. It's situated in a perfect tranquil area. So peaceful and quiet. Just sitting outside listening to the birds. The garden is lovely and large. Well looked after. A short walk down to the Lake windermere. Perfect destination. We would definitely return to this property again

An large isolated old style cottage on far edge of Windermere between Hawkshead and Wray Castle. Plenty of space and facilities coupled with a very large garden. Has outdoor seating and tables although the old wooden bench has basically had it. If you have small dogs they will be able to slip through the two gates surrounding the garden. There has Read morebeen some modernisation to some of the rooms with PVC windows and doors. Many walks around the area but roads single track so beware. Bring food. Hide
