This charming holiday home for couples and small families is set in the rural village of Hawkshead, deep in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Lake Windermere is 4 miles from the property, where you can board one of the launches or steamers to cruise between the quaint towns and villages dotted around the lake. You’ll also be within easy reach of the woodland tracks and trails of Grizedale Forest (2 miles).

The cosy cottage has been sympathetically restored and decorated to complement the property’s period features. Enter into the spacious lounge, where a corner sofa and two armchairs, arranged around an open fire, provide the perfect place to unwind after a long walk. Down a step, discover a charming kitchen/diner, with all the equipment needed to create delicious feasts to share at the pretty dining table by the wood burner. The two delightful bedrooms are set on the first floor, along with a stylish family bathroom. Outside, soak up the peace and tranquillity in the garden, which has a picnic bench for al fresco dining and far-reaching rural views. There is also an outbuilding for storing bikes.

Hawkshead is a charming village, with cute cottages and historic buildings. You’ll find a good choice of places to eat, from quaint tearooms to traditional village inns, and notable points of interest include The Old Grammar School, where William Wordsworth was a pupil (you can see his name carved into a desk in one of the classrooms). The area has inspired literary icons for centuries, and just outside the village is Beatrix Potter’s former writing retreat, Hill Top. Hawkshead sits between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, giving you plenty of choice when it comes to waterside strolls and fell walks with dramatic views.

The cottage is in a lovely location overlooking the beautiful Cumbrian hills. It is a very short walk to Hawkshead, which is a gorgeous village with lots of shops and restaurants. Both outside doors open straight out onto fairly busy roads, so you would need to watch children especially if you were using the back garden area that can only be acceRead moressed by walking into the road. The house, particularly the living room, was very cold - much colder than outside. On the first night we had to contact the owners to increase the heating, which had been set to 17 degrees and was far too cold for the time of year. They did respond very quickly though and were able to remotely adjust the temperature to 20 degrees which helped. We also used the living room fire, which burned through wood very quickly due to the difference in air temperature, although once the room temperature had increased it evened that out a bit - closing the curtains also helped to reduce the draught. At night it was very quiet and dark, so we slept extremely well. Hide

The cottage is lovely a cosy, and the views are spectacular with great walks from the village. Lovely clean cottage, only an 8 min walk into Hawkshead. Beds very comfy. Constant hot water. Despite being on a corner traffic not a problem, ample room for parking one car. Handy bus stop in Hawkshead, to save driving.

Very comfortable and clean as expected. We were advised in advance of a plumber coming round to fix a leaking tap. This was looked at before we arrived and couldn't be fixed. No a major issue for us as it was a cold tap. Good communication regarding this. Great location and very quiet. Would stay here again.

Kirrin cottage is good value for money and a lovely location in the Lakes. Only a short walk into the pretty village of Hawkshead - no pathway for part of the walk along the main road, but didn't cause too much inconvenience, even with two small children. Off-road parking a bonus.
