Set in the picturesque village of Eskdale, this is a lovely holiday cottage providing self-catering accommodation for five people. Handy for both the pub and the village shop, there are also hundreds of walks right from the front door either on the fells or along the banks of the River Esk, which flows from Scafell at the top of the valley down to the estuary at Ravenglass, an old fishing village complete with a ruined Roman bath-house.

The river has natural pools for swimming and is a popular place for canoeing and fishing. The famous Ravenglass and Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely 7-mile journey down to the sea - Irton Road station is also just five minutes' walk from the cottage.

There are five pubs in Eskdale with one, just a 5-minute walk away, all welcoming children and serving real ales and a wide choice of good food. The village shop is just a ten-minute walk away and sells a comprehensive range of goods, including groceries, fresh fruit and vegetables, food to go, alcohol and newspapers.

From the hallway is the sitting room to the right with its open fire and a Smart TV and the dining room is to the left and also has an open fire.

The kitchen is beyond the dining room and is fully equipped with an electric cooker, microwave, dishwasher, washer-drier, fridge/freezer, Nespresso Inissia coffee capsule machine and Aeroccino3 milk frother. There is plenty of storage space here too and the kitchen door leads to the back garden.

The cottage has three bedrooms upstairs: one double with en-suite shower, one twin and one single. There is also an upstairs bathroom with bath and electric shower above and a third toilet downstairs.

There is a patio area to the front of the cottage and at the back there is an enclosed garden with views up the valley.

Rigg Cottage is a lovely, cosy cottage in a great location, with beautiful views and had everything we needed for our stay. There is a local shop, two pubs, and great walks locally. Scafell Pike and the coast is within a short driving distance.

Had a great time at the cottage. Perfect location to explore the Scafell range. Great pubs nearby particularly the Bower House Inn (5 mins walk away) and The Boot Inn (10 mins drive). The Irton Road request stop on the Ravenglass-Eskdale Railway is just a few minutes walk away and this is well worth taking a ride on. Echoing recent guests the propRead moreerty could do with a bit of a refresh. The carpets are slightly worn and some of the walls could so with a new coat of paint. However the garden is lovely and the fire in the living room was perfect after a wet day on the fells! Had to contact Holiday Cottages to sort a slight issue which they did in quick time. Hide

The cottage was comfortable, well equipped and practical. As the weather was so wet and we had dogs with us, the tiled floor in the kitchen and dining room was a big help. Rigg Cottage is a nice cottage but needs updating and some much needed maintenance. Rear garden needs much attention, but also slippy step is dangerous. Excellent location for Bower House pub which has excellent dining and drinks. Walking distance to catch the Ratty narrow gauge railway
