Stoke up the wood-fired hot tub and simply unwind after your exhilarating Cumbrian hikes.
This delightful cottage at Caldbeck, 7.5 miles from Wigton, also has an enticing wood burner for indoor relaxation after long walks. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom hideaway is ideally located for following the Cumbria Way and northern Lakes.

Take two steps up to the front door and head inside to find an exquisite combination of character features and elegant touches. From the entrance hall/utility room, amble into the kitchen to unpack your groceries and get dinner started. Make fresh coffee in the machine to enjoy at the breakfast bar. The gorgeous lounge/diner, with its beamed ceiling and exposed stonework, is a welcoming space for both dining and socialising. Light the wood burner in here to cast a cosy glow across the room as you linger at the table over a bottle of wine after your meal. Gather in the snug, with another wood burner crackling in the background, to catch up on your current boxset. There is also a family shower room downstairs. Your beautiful bedrooms are all up on the first floor, where there is some restricted head height due to the age and character of the cottage. These include a super-king-size bedroom and a king-size room, each with an en-suite shower room, plus a cosy twin. Steam in the hot tub as you gaze out across the Cumbrian countryside. Dine alfresco on summer days and grill supper on the BBQ. There is private parking for three cars.

Pull on your walking boots and head 9.5 miles to stroll beside picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake. Plan a day out to Keswick, 16.5 miles away, to take a cruise out on Derwentwater or attempt the 10-mile circular walk all the way round the lake.

Our party of six adults had a fantastic time at Home Farm. The cottage is lovely and it was fantastic to look at the stars from the hot tub and cosy up with the log burners. The local pub seems very popular and the food was excellent. Kitchen was well equipped enough for us to cook a full Xmas dinner for 6. Would thoroughly recommend this cottage fRead moreor anyone looking to get away from it all for a few days. Hide

We stayed at this cottage last weekend and had a really lovely time. Honestly, the pictures on the website dont do it justice the accommodation is much nicer in real life: clean, cosy, beautifully maintained, and full of charm. The location is also ideal for hikes, with some great trails nearby offering stunning views. A thoughtful touch from tRead morehe host was leaving some local farm butter and milk in the fridge, which we really appreciated. The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher and an espresso machine though its worth noting that no coffee capsules were provided, so be sure to bring your own if you want to make use of it. We also found the washing machine and dryer extremely useful, especially after returning from wet and muddy hikes. It was quite cold when we arrived, and unfortunately, we couldnt get hold of the host at 10pm to help us start the central heating. Luckily, the cottage has wood-burning stoves which we used to warm the space they added a nice, rustic touch, even if they took a bit of time to get going. The wood-fired hot tub is a lovely idea, but its fully out in the open with no shelter, so not the most enjoyable experience in the rain. It also takes around 4 hours to heat up properly, so definitely plan ahead if you want to use it. We were also a bit disappointed that there was no BBQ on-site despite the listing referencing firing up the BBQ. That said, the host was very kind and accommodating with a late checkout (12:30), which we really appreciated. Overall, this is a beautiful, peaceful cottage in a great location for a quiet, nature-filled getaway just be prepared with a few extras and a bit of flexibility! Hide

The cottage has every facility for a restful stay and is very very quiet , so good sleep in the comfortable beds. Excellent pub grub is a short walk away if you wont cook after a long day out. Three showers and toilets are a bonus for large parties Village also has two cafes for breakfast or lunch and a small shop. Highly recommended.

Great stay with really welcoming facilities (we especially appreciated the hot tub being ready for when we came). The kitchen was fully equipped and we loved that there was a bottle of prosecco, local milk and butter waiting for us. We want to make this our annual getaway!
