Located in the heart of Ambleside yet exuding calm and tranquillity, this delightful duplex apartment makes a fantastic base for exploring Lake Windermere and the wider Lake District. Occupying the top two floors of a Lakeland stone building, it has a storied past as the former gallery space of the Heaton Cooper family of artists. This expansive space has been lovingly renovated to create a five-bedroom retreat that’s ideal for family holidays or a getaway with friends.

A staircase leads up from the ground floor to the apartment entrance on the second floor. Straddling the second and third floors of the building, this loft apartment has a reverse-level layout with the main living room set in the former gallery space beneath the eaves on the top floor. This open-plan space beautifully fuses lounge, kitchen and dining area in a light-filled room with windows on two sides offering views across the rooftops to the fells and skylights overhead. Ideal for spending quality time with your loved ones, this layout ensures the laughter and chatter continues while preparing food, wining and dining together, and over evenings gathered on the sofa sharing a bottle of wine. Five spacious bedrooms are divided between the two floors, three with double beds and two king-size with zip-and-link beds offering flexible sleeping arrangements to suit your group. Three shower rooms, a separate WC and a utility room take care of all practicalities.

While this apartment doesn’t come with any outdoor space, it offers easy access to the attractions and amenities of Ambleside. Brimming with shops and eateries, Ambleside is a paradise for walkers, with nearby trails including Loughrigg Fell (4 miles), which has stunning views from the top, and Stock Ghyll Force, a 70-foot waterfall (just over 0.5 miles). History lovers can amble around the Roman fort, while the town’s location at the head of Lake Windermere offers an abundance of water-based activities.

Brilliant location in central Ambleside - Friday night was a bit noisy with a bar opposite but fine on other nights. There was a lot of stairs in the property both inside and to access it. Car parking was as easy as website implied - we did the 1.50 before 9am to park for the day via the car parking app!

We all love the Loft on Lake Road Ambleside. We've stayed here four times now. In the summer and New Year. And would recommend it to anyone The Loft sleeps up to ten people and it's so big there's plenty of room for everyone.

Our 6/7th stay so its almost our 2nd home! Great location. Very spacious duplex apartment perfect for up to 10 people. Not luxurious but clean with everything you need.

We chose the property for a family get together. Great location and plenty of room. Don't book if you're not good with stairs. Noise from Lily's Bar can disturb your sleep. Great property but expensive for what you get.

Superb location. Brilliant cooking/eating/social space. Handy drying room. Large bedrooms, comfy beds. Slightly limited bathroom facilities if 10 (active) people staying - 3 loos, 3 showers, 2 washing sinks (no bath).

Brilliant spaces for all our family which made for a great break for the ten of us, not many places could cope in on place. Living/dining/kitchen was fantastic space. Would certainly consider this for the future

Spent a lovely weekend in the Loft for my 50th birthday with friends. It does get nosy with the music from the pub over the road but nothing a set of earplugs would fix! Fab apartment in a beautiful setting!

This is the fourth time we've stayed at the Loft in Ambleside and have already booked for next New Year. Location, value for money. Size and comfort are the reasons why we keep coming back. It feels like are holiday home. And would definitely recommend the Loft to anyone.Thank you.

Property in a great location plenty of bars, pubs & restaurants. Right in the centre so all amenities at hand. All rooms are airy & spacious, very clean & plenty of crockery, utensils, cooking facilities. Two large fridges and a large freezer good for large groups we were only 6 but 10 would find it very comfortable.
