A charming stone bungalow with a secluded garden oasis, set in the scenic village of Elterwater in the very heart of the Lake District. Sleeping six guests across three bedrooms, this tranquil retreat is perfect for families and groups of friends escaping into nature. Enjoy adventures across the Lake District’s most popular sights, such as the town of Windermere and its vast lake (8 miles), or Coniston Water (6 miles), before returning for a competitive evening spent in the games room.

This inviting single-storey property boasts a bright interior with large picture windows, plush soft furnishings, and sociable open-plan spaces. Unravel outer layers in the entranceway then pad into the light-flooded lounge/diner. Flop onto the soft sofas with a brew and admire the countryside views beyond. Warm chilly toes in the crackling glow of the wood burner as you unwind with a favourite film on the Smart TV. As the night draws in, gather around the wooden dining table to feast with a backdrop of the fells. Keen chefs will be in their element experimenting with local produce in the wooden shaker kitchen. Those with a competitive streak can slip away to the games room for a round of table football or pool. Retire to the comfort of three thoughtfully styled bedrooms, consisting of two kings-size rooms and a twin bedroom. Outside, relax on the covered veranda, perfect for evening tipples, or potter in the lush garden surrounded by greenery.

Lace up the hiking boots and venture through dense woodland to witness the thundering falls of Skelwith Force (1.5 miles). Thrill-seekers can take in the glistening waters of Windermere on a kayaking adventure from the Rockhole Lake District Visitor Centre (6 miles), while the literary lovers delve into the quintessentially English World of Beatrix Potter (9 miles). Fabulous cottage in a great location near the cosy Britannia Inn. We had quite a bit of rain during our stay, improved by the comfort and views across fields, the wet souls trudging the Cumbria Way, and hills from the lounge. Would definitely stay here again.

We had a fabulous week at Anniversary Cottage. The bungalow is one of the best equipped places we have ever been to. Loved the slow cooker. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home which we tend to do. Comfortable lounge with inviting log burner. It would have been a lovely gesture to Include a baskets of logs, kindling and firelightRead moreers to start us off. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage and beds were comfortable. A minor gripe was the water and central heating system as we ran out of water for evening showers if any were taken in the morning and had to remember to boost the immersion heater in the afternoon for enough hot water. We also went in a really cold spell and couldnt adjust the heating so had to phone through for support as the house became cold very quickly after it went off. It is set to come on 3 times a day which was ok once outside temps increased but flexibility to change without phoning for help would have been helpful. Space for several cars to park off road which is an advantage for this village as it does get busy. Fabulous location for walks from the doorstep straight into the Great Langdale valley with walks to Skelwith Bridge and Loughrigg tarn close by. 2 mins walk from fab pub - Britannia Inn which is cosy, welcoming and serves great food. Overall would definitely recommend return. Hide

Lovely property - well located and very comfortable. Two maintenance issues - 1. The TV remote control was not working properly, so I had to replace the two AAA batteries with new ones, which solved the problem. 2. When it rained heavily, water was squirting out of a joint (about 1 metre above ground level) in the gutter downpipe at the far eRead morend of the veranda at the back of the house. I suspect the drain that it feeds into is blocked, so the water pressure is forcing water out of the joint. Hide
