This waterside two-bedroom cottage in Elterwater is a good choice for a family or two couples looking for tranquillity and easy access to lakeside, fell and forest walks. This Grade II-listed property has an open fire, perfect for warming toes after a long walk.

Inside, original ceiling beams, soft furnishings, and homely decor add to the country cottage feel. The ground floor lounge is a comfortable space with plump sofas and an open fire to keep things snug on chilly nights. Sit and chat about your day’s adventures or step through to the light and airy kitchen and rustle up a delicious dinner. Back in the lounge, a dining table with seating for four people is perfectly set up for sociable meals. When it’s time for bed, soothing tones sweep up to the first floor where you’ll find a lovely double bedroom and twin bedroom. Both bedrooms are wonderfully peaceful with the double room offering up views of the beck. A modern shower room is also on this floor. In the morning, the quiet patio area is the perfect place to start the day with a coffee. Absorb the peaceful surroundings and relax as you listen to the sounds of Langdale Beck flowing below.

Pull on walking boots and enjoy a 1-mile riverside walk straight from the door to Great Langdale Beck. Alternatively, the more energetic can hike up Scafell Pike (9 miles). For a spot of wild swimming, sailing or kayaking head to Grasmere or Lake Windermere (both 8 miles), or for a more leisurely day out, journey to Lake Coniston (5.5 miles) and enjoy a cruise on a Victorian steam-powered yacht.

The cottage is ideally situated in a picturesque spot with three pubs and a shop within very easy and pleasant walking distance. There is also a bus stop, enabling walks to or from other places. The cottage and garden are tiny, but comfortable and well equipped.
