Gaze down at gorgeous Grasmere Water from the patio at this exquisite stone barn in the Lake District. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway offers single-storey, dog-friendly accommodation at the heart of the national park. With access to a beautiful, shared garden, it is 1 mile from the village of Grasmere and 5 miles from Ambleside. It offers walks right from the doorstep, plus the opportunity to enjoy the larger lakes, such as Windermere and Coniston Water.

Wander inside the impressive old barn to find yourselves in an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which still features a vaulted ceiling and original beams. Settle in here after your long hikes across the fells to chat about your day, play games and watch TV. Take turns preparing delicious Cumbrian feasts in the kitchen area, where you can pull a stool up to the breakfast bar to keep the chef company. Gather around the table to dine together in the evening or carry your plates out into the sunshine. When you are ready to retire for the night, amble through to one of the comfortable bedrooms. These include a double and a twin, each with an en-suite bath or shower room. Wander down to the patio for morning coffee out in the fresh air on summer days as you gaze out over the lake. Take your pet or children to stroll around the shared gardens.

Wander down to the water and enjoy a gentle walk along the shores. Head 3.5 miles to see the impressive cave at Rydal and to stroll around beautiful Rydal Mount and Gardens, where poet William Wordsworth lived. Head into Ambleside to potter in the shops, dine out and see the Roman fort. Venture 7 miles to Coniston Water for long hikes around the lake and up into the surrounding fells.

A very enjoyable stay at the cottage. It worked very well for a family of four and a dog. Wonderful walks from the cottage and lovely views from the garden. Unfortunately not much view from the cottage itself due to placement of windows to the front of the building but this did not detract from a very enjoyable stay. Everything needed, such as crocRead morekery and cutlery, cafetiere, lots of pots and pans. Hide

This cottage is in an ideal location for access to the lake and local walks. It was cosy and had a good supply of hot water. The only downside was there were not enough forks or wine glasses for 4 people.

Lovely place, ideally placed in a quiet spot just outside Grasmere, very close to miles of walking. The views from the garden are stunning but sadly cant be seen from the house. However, would recommend.

Good location overlooking Grasmere, 5 minutes walk to the lake, 3 minutes drive to the village. Comfy beds, but kitchen could be a bit better equipped.

We had a lovely stay. The barn is comfortable but is all about the location. A lovely 20 min walk to Grasmere village with lots of cafes, bistros & pubs. Theres a beautiful shared garden you can use with picture perfect views. Saw lots of wildlife deer, birds, frogs and fish. An easy 10 minute walk to the lake with plenty of little inlets to relRead moreax and a popular beach for swimming and paddle boarding. It was perfect for our dog who needs an off lead walk, as the walk to the lake is fully fenced and fields with nearby livestock were fully secured. We did the circular walk to Rydale along the river passing Rydale Cave and Wordsworth House which is lovely. If you dont want to do much driving theres so much on your door step here, Ambleside a short drive and Beatrix Potters house a bit further. We stayed in Grasmere pretty much the whole time. Baldrys Cafe and the Ginger Bread shop is a must visit - delicious! I would definitely recommend staying at this Barn for its location, a little slice of true English heaven. Hide

Generally the cottage is tired and needs updating. There is plenty of space but the above mentioned issues let it down. Its such a shame as it is in a beautiful location.

The cottage was a very comfortable place to stay. It uses its space well, there is a small hallway to hang coats and store your walking gear. Beds and sofas were comfortable. Kitchen pretty well equipped but would benefit from a cafetiere or similar implement. The property has a bluray player which streams netflix/iplayer etc but this isn't mentioRead morened in the property details. Wi fi works OK. The dishwasher broke during our stay and set off the trip switch affecting some of the electrics (heating cooker ceiling lights were unaffected) and the holiday company dealt with this promptly. The property is about 1.5 miles from Grasmere village centre elevated above the Lake, its a dark walk at night so take a torch if you plan to walk anywhere in the evening. Overall a comfortable place to stay. Hide

Just need to make it clear there is no direct access from property to garden, a walk around property to reach garden area is required, due to one main window for lake view, could do with trees/shrubs cutting back
