Gaze down at gorgeous Grasmere Water from the patio at this exquisite stone barn in the Lake District. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom hideaway offers single-storey, dog-friendly accommodation at the heart of the national park. With access to a beautiful, shared garden, it is 1 mile from the village of Grasmere and 5 miles from Ambleside. It offers walks right from the doorstep, plus the opportunity to enjoy the larger lakes, such as Windermere and Coniston Water.
Wander inside the impressive old barn to find yourselves in an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which still features a vaulted ceiling and original beams. Settle in here after your long hikes across the fells to chat about your day, play games and watch TV. Take turns preparing delicious Cumbrian feasts in the kitchen area, where you can pull a stool up to the breakfast bar to keep the chef company. Gather around the table to dine together in the evening or carry your plates out into the sunshine. When you are ready to retire for the night, amble through to one of the comfortable bedrooms. These include a double and a twin, each with an en-suite bath or shower room. Wander down to the patio for morning coffee out in the fresh air on summer days as you gaze out over the lake. Take your pet or children to stroll around the shared gardens.
Wander down to the water and enjoy a gentle walk along the shores. Head 3.5 miles to see the impressive cave at Rydal and to stroll around beautiful Rydal Mount and Gardens, where poet William Wordsworth lived. Head into Ambleside to potter in the shops, dine out and see the Roman fort. Venture 7 miles to Coniston Water for long hikes around the lake and up into the surrounding fells.
