This gorgeous holiday home is ideally located on the Yorkshire/Cumbria border, so you and your loved ones can spend your holiday exploring both the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park. Set in the spectacular valley of Garsdale on the western slopes of the Pennines, this a dream location for wilderness lovers. Take a stroll along the Clough River and you’ll find plenty of shallow, rocky pools, as well as the occasional pool that’s large enough for wild swimming. Further north, you’ll discover the market town of Kirkby Stephen (13 miles), which sits at the gateway of the Eden Valley. Take the opportunity to check out the Monday market, which has been a regular fixture in the town since 1352, and see the ‘Trupp Stone’, where tithes were paid until 1836. Alternatively, head into Kendal (19.5 miles) to stroll around the ruins of its 12th-castle ruins, browse the works of JMW Turner and Edward Lear at Abbot Hall Art Gallery, and sample some local beers at the Hawkshead Brewery.

As you approach this lovely country home, you’ll notice the covered porch and wood store. Step inside and fire up the wood burner in the lavish lounge. Make yourself at home on the antique sofa before heading to the wonderful kitchen (check out the fabulous feature stone shelves!) to cook up a feast for your loved ones. Serve a dinner to remember by the feature stone fireplace in the dining room, before returning to the lounge to chill out in front of your favourite TV shows. A handy utility room and lovely double bedroom with an en-suite shower room complete the ground-floor layout. Choose to sleep in this bedroom and you’ll have direct access to the property’s front patio area through patio doors –a great spot to enjoy your morning coffee. Access to the first floor is available via two staircases. Up the wooden staircase, you’ll find a games room/bedroom with a small double sofa bed and pool table, as well as a shower room. Up the stone staircase, you’ll discover a lovely king-size bedroom with a beamed ceiling (there’s some limited headroom in this room) and an en-suite bathroom, as well as a cosy twin bedroom and a family bathroom.

Outside, the enclosed rear terraced garden, which has access to a flowing stream, is sure to charm you. Please note that the rear garden is quite steep and untamed. The front lawned area also has steps that lead down to the river. It’s the perfect place to pull up a chair and enjoy a glass of wine. Due to the open access and proximity of the river in both gardens, children and dogs must be supervised at all times.

The only issue I have is that there was no information to advise that all the fields surrounding the cottage are private. There are no public footpaths anywhere near the cottage and this made is very difficult to take the dog for a walk and for my 83 year old father with dementia to go anywhere safely. The river at the bottom of the garden was advRead moreertised but we were told by a local farmer that we were not allowed in the river past the bridge ad so again had no access to walk anywhere close to the cottage which spoilt the experience. The photos on the website show surrounding countryside which makes you believe there are walks on the door step but this is not correct and should be made clear in the description / information. We booked the cottage because of the surrounding countryside and then found out we had to drive to find any kind of public footpath. This was super disappointing because I believed that once there we could leave the car and just spend time in the surrounding area but found myself constantly driving. Hide

Beautiful house in a stunning setting. The games room was very popular with our teenage children. Lots of space for the family to spread out. Location is right in the middle of the dales with some charming local villages to visit. I would highly recommend.

We have so enjoyed our half term holiday in this cosy house full of character. The house had everything we needed and was within short distance to a range of great attractions. The stunning local scenery made this feel like a home away from home. Thank you!
