This traditional stone-built cottage beside Ullswater and the mountains of the Lake District is an idyllic base for a reviving getaway in nature with your family or partner plus two canine companions. After exploring the surrounding hiking trails, quaint countryside towns and picturesque viewpoints, relax by the fire or sit out on the south-facing patio while the sun goes down.
Climb a couple of stone steps to reach the entrance of the property and step inside to find a bright lounge/diner with wooden furnishings, leather sofas and a crackling wood burner. Next to the window is a small dining table which looks out onto the trees and mountains. Continue into the cosy, neutral-toned farmhouse-style kitchen with wooden worktops and a small breakfast bar. Make use of the under-the-stairs cupboard storage and walk-in pantry in the kitchen. A traditional cottage staircase will lead you to the family bathroom and two bedrooms – a king-size with countryside views and a twin room with an oak wardrobe. Outside is a patio with bench seating and a private outbuilding for storing sports equipment or pushchairs.
While staying in the small village of Glenridding, which is nestled amongst the fells, you can check out the nearby outdoor leisure activities, including biking, water sports and hiking. If you’re up for a challenge, navigate your way to the summit of Helvellyn (1.5 miles), which stands at 950m – the striding edge is for more experienced mountaineers. Take a picnic to Ullswater (0.5 miles) and make a trip to the dramatic Aira Force Waterfall (3 miles). Dine out at the village pub (less than 0.5 miles) or head to Pooley Bridge (8.5 miles) for a wider range of eateries – including a tearoom.
