Surrounded by Lakeland fell views and the Pennines, this characterful, stone-built farmhouse with sleek interiors, a games area and a garden is an excellent base for a tranquil getaway in the Lake District with a group of friends or family plus three canine companions. Spend your time away hiking through the nature reserves, visiting historical landmarks and embarking on water-based adventures at the nearby Ullswater.

Step inside and find yourself in the contemporary kitchen/diner with grey tones throughout, a wooden beamed ceiling and glossy cabinets on the fitted kitchen unit. To one side of the room is a wooden table with bench seating. Continue into the snug lounge with an eye-catching exposed stone fireplace with a wood burner, which is surrounded by plush velvet sofas. This room is decorated with tones of purple and green throughout the soft furnishings and offers a games area with table football and board games. Also on the ground floor is a utility room and WC. Climb the oak stairs to reach a family bathroom and three bedrooms – a king-size with an en-suite, a single and another king-size bedroom. Outside, you can dine alfresco in the courtyard with furniture and countryside views.

During your stay near the small village of Bampton, you can enjoy the countryside on foot by following the scenic walking trails around you. Keep an eye out for wild ponies, or head to The RSPB at Haweswater Nature Reserve (3.5 miles) for a chance to see badgers. Explore the grand ruins of Lowther Castle (5 miles) or the ancient Gunnerkeld Stone Circle (8.5 miles). Challenge yourself with a hike to the summit of Helvellyn (16.5 miles), which sits at 950 metres above sea level, or enjoy a leisurely stroll around Ullswater (8 miles).

A beautiful cottage in a rural setting. The cottage has been finished to a high standard throughout including bedding, towels etc. The cottage is located in farm land and therefore once you leave the public highway you access the property via a tarmac single lane and then several hundred metres of farm track. Its a beautiful rural location, but notRead more for sports cars or low vehicles. We did stay in November so parts of the lane were muddy, might be better in summer...did i mention its a beautiful q Hide
