A cosy cottage for two in the quiet village of Gilcrux is perfectly placed for exploring the beautiful Western Lake District and Solway Coast. You can share your holiday with two canine companions and pets are also welcome at the village pub. There are shops and restaurants in the nearby Georgian market town of Cockermouth (5.5 miles), while tranquil Loweswater and Bassenthwaite lakes are within easy reach.

This charming cottage has bags of character and a lovely, homely feel, with comfortable seating in the lounge where you can curl up in front of the wood burner after a great day out. A handy breakfast bar in the neat kitchen is ideal for dining in. Upstairs, the pretty double bedroom has a fine feature fireplace and there is a bathroom with a shower over the bath, perfect for a soak after long walks. A dog bed and bowls are provided for your pets. Outside, a small, shared yard has a shed for bikes or paddleboards and a seating area.

The pub in Gilcrux serves homemade meals, along with real ale and there’s also a post office. Look for the seven natural springs which can be seen around the village and explore the ancient church, thought to date back to 1100. In Cockermouth, visit the childhood home of the poet William Wordsworth, preserved by the National Trust. Enjoy a walk along the promenade in the coastal town of Maryport (6 miles), with views of the Scottish mountains, and meet the fishy residents of the Lake District Coast Aquarium. A beautiful cottage. Immaculate condition with a real home from home feeling. Very cosy and I loved sitting next to the log burner watching TV. Had everything we needed. Would highly recommend for a quiet break away from all the rush. We visited Cockermouth which is small and quaint with lovely shops. We also went to Whitehaven and explored the RumRead more Story which was very interesting. The local pub The Mason's Arms in the village was very friendly and served some lovely food. Thank you. We found the cottage to be very nice and comfortable. For us, the location was a bit remote for a winter break due to short days / dark at 4 pm, especially when the weather is inclement.

This was a great place to stay, the cottage had all the essentials we needed. Our visits to the local Masons arms pub were enjoyable with everyone being very friendly. We lit the fire in the living room on our last night, as it was a little cold outside and wanted to enjoy the experience. Will definitely visit again.

A charming little terraced cottage in a quiet, beautiful village surrounded by open countryside.. The house is perfect for 2 people and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. A car is essential with on road parking widely available. There is no private outside space (there is an outside rear yard shared with neighbouring properties) so if Read moreyou are looking for a place to open the door and let your dog wander around this is not the place, but its a minor inconvenience.
