This quaint, stone-built cottage has an idyllic setting, less than a mile from Ullswater, one of England’s most beautiful lakes. Once a lead miner’s home, it sleeps four guests, with atmospheric original features that include beams throughout and flagstone floors. Ideal for a small family or friends sharing, the terraced cottage has wonderful views of the lake and nearby fells, with shops, pubs and restaurants in the village of Glenridding, just 1.5 miles away. Discover a wealth of walks and adventures on the doorstep, from boating to scaling Helvellyn (3 miles).
A handy outside porch is perfect for storing muddy hiking boots and coats before entering the open-plan lounge/diner/kitchen. Comfortable seating, a rug on the flagstone floor and a wood burner make this a beautifully cosy space, with a dining area and neat galley kitchen at the other end of the room. Steep, ladder-style stairs lead to the first floor, comprising a family shower room and two peaceful bedrooms: a double and a bunk bedroom. Outside, a two-tiered garden has a lawn and steps down to a patio with furniture where you can drink in the view.
Catch a steamer from Glenridding for a leisurely cruise around Ullswater, or hire a boat, canoe or kayak in the summer months. You can also book guided tours of Helvellyn in the village. Take a short walk through woodland to see the dramatic Aira Force waterfall (2.5 miles) and visit the pretty village of Pooley Bridge (6.5 miles) at the northern end of Ullswater. Visit historic Dalemain House (7 miles), a country mansion with splendid, award-winning gardens and the ruins of spectacular Lowther Castle (11.5 miles), which include remarkable gardens and a large adventure playground.
