Retreat to this exquisite cottage in tranquil Bampton to experience the beauty of the eastern Lake District. Sleeping four guests, the three-bedroom, single-storey hideaway takes in enchanting views out across the Lowther Valley. A holiday home for all seasons, it comes with a wood burner to toast beside after autumn and winter excursions and a lovely garden for summer days. It also has a sauna. The cottage is 7 miles from Pooley Bridge, where you can catch a steamer and cruise on Ullswater.

Wander inside to find accommodation brimming with character through its beamed ceilings and exposed stone walls. Leave your walking boots and wellies in the entrance hall before heading through to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner to relax for a spell. Light the wood burner on chilly days, watch your favourite TV programmes and amble over to the kitchen to prepare a tasty meal with ingredients you have bought. You will find everything else you need through here to assist you in your endeavours. Dine together at the table, then stroll through to the conservatory with your coffee to take in the verdant views. Open the doors in here on summer evenings. When you are ready to retire for the night, make your way into the king-size bedroom or one of the two singles. There is a family bathroom, complete with the rare treat of a sauna, for everyone to share. Make the most of the attractive garden on sunny days. Sit out here with a cup of tea and absorb the beautiful views.

Head to Pooley Bridge to follow the Ullswater Way, a 20-mile circular route that goes right around the lake. Head 2 miles to Haweswater for more lakeside walks. Visit impressive Lowther Castle, 5.5 miles away, where you can stroll through scenic grounds and see the ruins.

Hi really loved our stay. Very comfortable bed. Saw two red squirrels and really enjoyed the local pub great food and very welcoming. The conservatory was really lovely and warm most of the time so enjoyed almost being outside when cool winds and rain prevented us sitting outside. Enjoyed using the sauna too. There is a lovely outdoor swimming poolRead more in Askham too went twice very warm. Hide

The Mews is small, basic & quite quirky. It was sufficient & comfortable for us 3 adults. The beds were comfy. Big bathroom, nice extra of sauna, tho' we didnt use. The location sold it for us, so quiet & a beautiful view to wake to, nice gdn & enjoyed seeing the neighbours sheep! Haweswater close by, Ullswater 15mins drive. Lovely Lowther Castle nRead moreearby. Always a scenic drive to further interests. Local pub & village store good-appreciated Larch Cottage Nursery recommendation for lunch. Hide
