A delightful cottage with glorious views of the unspoiled Cumbrian fells, this holiday home offers a wonderful retreat for a large family or group of friends. Exceptionally spacious and splendidly furnished, it sleeps seven guests and is ideally placed to explore the attractions of the Southern Lake District. This dog-friendly property also welcomes two pets. There is a pub within 0.5 miles, and a range of independent shops in the historic Georgian town of Broughton-in-Furness, 2.5 miles away. Scenic walks and bike trails are nearby, while tranquil Coniston Water (7.5 miles) and the surrounding fells are within easy reach.
The cottage is wonderfully light and airy and has two wood burners for chilly nights. One is in the impressive lounge, where you can relax on a sumptuous, L-shaped sofa, and the other warms the elegant dining room. The stylish kitchen is fully kitted out for family meals and has a cosy reading nook. Upstairs are two bathrooms (one an en-suite), and three, beautifully styled king-size bedrooms. These feature sleigh and brass beds, and a curtained four-poster, which also houses a single bed. Outside, a decked patio with outdoor furniture has far-reaching views and overlooks a partially enclosed garden with mature trees.
Enjoy a cruise on Coniston Water aboard the beautifully restored Victorian yacht, Gondola. You can also hire your own craft at the Boating Centre in Coniston village, which has shops, pubs and eateries. Take a hike to the summit of the mighty Old Man of Coniston or opt for a refreshing swim in the lake. The charming and historic village of Hawkshead is within 4 miles of Coniston. The poet William Wordsworth went to Hawkshead Grammar School, and you can see his schoolboy signature carved into a desk.
