This charming holiday home for couples and small families is set in the rural village of Hawkshead, deep in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Lake Windermere is 4 miles from the property, where you can board one of the launches or steamers to cruise between the quaint towns and villages dotted around the lake. You’ll also be within easy reach of the woodland tracks and trails of Grizedale Forest (2 miles).
The cosy cottage has been sympathetically restored and decorated to complement the property’s period features. Enter into the spacious lounge, where a corner sofa and two armchairs, arranged around an open fire, provide the perfect place to unwind after a long walk. Down a step, discover a charming kitchen/diner, with all the equipment needed to create delicious feasts to share at the pretty dining table by the wood burner. The two delightful bedrooms are set on the first floor, along with a stylish family bathroom. Outside, soak up the peace and tranquillity in the garden, which has a picnic bench for al fresco dining and far-reaching rural views. There is also an outbuilding for storing bikes.
Hawkshead is a charming village, with cute cottages and historic buildings. You’ll find a good choice of places to eat, from quaint tearooms to traditional village inns, and notable points of interest include The Old Grammar School, where William Wordsworth was a pupil (you can see his name carved into a desk in one of the classrooms). The area has inspired literary icons for centuries, and just outside the village is Beatrix Potter’s former writing retreat, Hill Top. Hawkshead sits between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, giving you plenty of choice when it comes to waterside strolls and fell walks with dramatic views.
