This charming holiday home for couples and small families is set in the rural village of Hawkshead, deep in the heart of the Lake District National Park. Lake Windermere is 4 miles from the property, where you can board one of the launches or steamers to cruise between the quaint towns and villages dotted around the lake. You’ll also be within easy reach of the woodland tracks and trails of Grizedale Forest (2 miles).

The cosy cottage has been sympathetically restored and decorated to complement the property’s period features. Enter into the spacious lounge, where a corner sofa and two armchairs, arranged around an open fire, provide the perfect place to unwind after a long walk. Down a step, discover a charming kitchen/diner, with all the equipment needed to create delicious feasts to share at the pretty dining table by the wood burner. The two delightful bedrooms are set on the first floor, along with a stylish family bathroom. Outside, soak up the peace and tranquillity in the garden, which has a picnic bench for al fresco dining and far-reaching rural views. There is also an outbuilding for storing bikes.

Hawkshead is a charming village, with cute cottages and historic buildings. You’ll find a good choice of places to eat, from quaint tearooms to traditional village inns, and notable points of interest include The Old Grammar School, where William Wordsworth was a pupil (you can see his name carved into a desk in one of the classrooms). The area has inspired literary icons for centuries, and just outside the village is Beatrix Potter’s former writing retreat, Hill Top. Hawkshead sits between Coniston Water and Lake Windermere, giving you plenty of choice when it comes to waterside strolls and fell walks with dramatic views.

Very comfortable and clean as expected. We were advised in advance of a plumber coming round to fix a leaking tap. This was looked at before we arrived and couldn't be fixed. No a major issue for us as it was a cold tap. Good communication regarding this. Great location and very quiet. Would stay here again.

Kirrin cottage is good value for money and a lovely location in the Lakes. Only a short walk into the pretty village of Hawkshead - no pathway for part of the walk along the main road, but didn't cause too much inconvenience, even with two small children. Off-road parking a bonus.

A lovely little cottage only a 3-minute walk from the centre of Hawkshead. The parking was a huge bonus, the kitchen was great for cooking, the living room was great for relaxing, the beds were very comfy and the shower had a good pressure and was hot!

A slightly tired seeming cottage, a little chilly and damp (mind you it was winter and cold and wet, so!?) , but in a great location with a little outdoor space that must be super in summer. They owners were very helpful letting me check in a little early on xmas day which was very much appreciated and I had everything I needed for a nice little ChRead moreristmas break. Thank you Hide

Cottage is fairly small but comfortable and cosy. The road outside does have a certain amount of traffic whizzing past, including high speed tractors ! As at 27 Sep 23 , the builders were working in the adjoining, attached , cottage so a bit of noise came through the wall. No doubt the work will be completed in a week or so time. Having said all thRead moreat, I would be more than happy to stay in Kirrin Cottage again Hide

Great stay at Kirrin cottage in August. Everything we needed and a top spot to access Coniston, Hawkshead, and Windermere. Peaceful spot at the end of the village. The walk from Hawkshead to Far Sawrey was a most pleasant peaceful stroll.

The cottage was lovely and clean and very comfortable. The location was fantastic for visiting lots of attractions, including Hawkshead village. The parking space was perfect and the small courtyard garden got the afternoon sun.
