Escape for a romantic, rural retreat filled with waterside walks and cosy nights in. Your dogs are welcome to adventure by your side and enjoy this fabulous location.
Nestled in a tranquil hamlet on the banks of Lake Bassenthwaite, this one-bedroom cottage is the ultimate romantic retreat, offering waterside walks and cosy nights in. Occupying a wing of the owner’s Victorian guest house, this delightful property welcomes two people and up to two dogs in a private and welcoming space, which includes its own magical garden and separate entrance.
This two-storey property has plenty of charm and character, especially with its ‘upside-down’ design that sees the bedroom on the ground floor with the main living space above. Snuggle up in the cosy lounge with a bottle of wine next to the wood burner-effect electric fire after a country walk, or sit and watch the wildlife from the large picture window. The kitchen is well equipped to rustle up your favourite meals – which you can enjoy in the garden on a warm summer’s eve. Get a good night’s sleep in the ground-floor bedroom and wake to birdsong in the garden, refreshed and ready for another day’s adventuring.
The most northerly lake in the Lake District National Park, Bassenthwaite is a haven for walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers. The lake is home to a rare species of fish, which prove tempting fare for ospreys that come here to fish. Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve is just over 300 metres from the property with viewing hides and nature walks, and next door is a full-size replica steam train of the Orient Express, previously used as part of a film set, which now offers a delicious afternoon tea. Sample local spirits at the Lake Distillery (1 mile) or take your mountain bike to off-road along beautiful trails in Whinlatter Forest (8.5 miles).
