This incredible house is in a rural location yet easy to reach being just 3 miles from Carlisle and 12 miles from Gretna Green. It’s perfect for a large family holiday or a group of friends who want to get together in a fabulous setting. There’s a golf course down the road, Hadrian’s Wall nearby and lots of pretty walks on the doorstep.

Occupying the wing of this beautiful Victorian property, the house is set over three floors. The impressive living room has period features and elegant furniture. There’s a second informal lounge with a TV, games console and sofa (a sofa bed which can sleep two more guests). The conservatory makes a stunning dining room and there’s an accessible wet room and WC on the ground floor too. Up the grand staircase are four of the five bedrooms, all tastefully decorated and furnished: a king, two doubles and a twin, as well as a family bathroom. The magnificent Master suite is on the second floor with a super-king bedroom, en-suite shower room, and a lounge area with a sofa and TV. Bi-fold doors lead out to the balcony where there are incredible views. The house sits in beautiful grounds with a patio, lawns, a BBQ, and even a children’s play area.

There’s a village shop, pub, and restaurant and more places to stock up on groceries or eat out in Carlisle (3 miles away). The town’s cathedral and castle are worth visiting too, as is Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery if you’re interested in the local history. Hadrian’s Wall is 15 miles away, where many forts, milecastles and turrets remain along its 73-mile length. There’s an accessible walk around Talkin Tarn (8 miles away) and Carlisle Golf Club is just 1 mile from the house.

Our second visit to this lovely house, perfect for our 7 adults, 2 toddlers and 3 enthusiastic dogs, the nearby village sportsground ideal for the latter. Oaktree Animal Rescue Charity and Welby Farm Park were excellent attractions while Talkin Tarn, Miltonrigg Wood, and the Gelt valley were great walks for children, dogs and adults. Loved the area and the walks. The dining room had the benefit of relaxing beautiful views. The house was warm. The mattress in the small double was a bit hard but might suit others. Another excellent stay at this lovely home. Quiet, spacious, pet friendly and always a genuine and sincere welcome. We explored more of the surrounding area this time discovering antique shops and lovely towns. All in all a terrific place to stay !

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Oakbank House. A truly magnificent property with charm, character, spectacular views and all one could need to make their holiday stay perfect! Lovely old house set in beautiful gardens clean and had every thing you needed . We were 7 adults, 2 kids and 4 dogs and we had plenty of room . The garden is enclosed but not secure for young or adventurous dogs . Hosts lovely and on hand if you had an issue . Would definitely recommend Oakbank .

A beautiful property which Is ideal for a large group. The house is very comfortable with multiple rooms which would suit a mixed age group. There are easily accessible walks locally as well as being well positioned for the Lakes and Kielder. Nigel and Douglas very helpful and friendly. Would definitely return.

Spent a fantastic weekend with family as a surprise for my husband's 80th birthday. We were greeted by the owner Dougie who took us round the property and he also came to say goodbye to us when we were leaving. A wonderful property full of beautiful period features and a warm welcome on arrival. Fully equipped with everything you will need for a week in this area. Plenty to see nearby. Great pub and village shop in Scotby was a real benefit. House has wonderfully maintained gardens and plenty of outdoor space and seating to enjoy on a sunny day.

This is a fantastic place to stay with great hosts. You can tell its a much loved family home and it has everything you could need for a large group of people . The village is lovely and the village pub is so accommodating and the food is amazing. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay , including the dogs .

We stayed as a family of 9, including a small child, plus a dog. The property was generously sized with space which we could share (like family breakfasts) or disappear to. My parents had the top suite which had been recently been renovated to a high standard and the view from their balcony was epic. This was our first time at this property - it will not be our last. My 89 year old mother was delighted with the ground floor bedroom with ensuite wet room. The large lounge catered well for our big group : 8 adults, 2 babies and 3 dogs. We ate all our meals in the conservatory which had lovely views. Amazing house in a lovely location. The house had everything we wanted and it felt grandiose with its massive stair case and landing. Location was lovely and quiet. It's a shame that the back garden isn't enclosed, but easily solved with a lead. We didn't realise that netflix was available until the last night. Lovely place and you can tell it was a loving family home. The owners were really friendly and helpful. Only minor negative is that the garden isn't secure so we had to keep our dogs on a lead while they were out

Beautiful restored Victorian home, with everything needed for a superb stay! Very comfortable, with large sized rooms and bedrooms, easy to relax and unwind whether indoors or outdoors in the lovely front or rear gardens. Loved our family holiday at Oakbank! Had a tour of the property on arrival and a very interesting brief history of the house. The house is wonderful! Lots of social spaces but also room to get away from everyone if needed. We loved all getting together in the evenings in the lounge. Lovely house, had a lovely stay, garden had lovely patio set and barbecue, we even saw a deer, ample parking and owners were very friendly and there if you needed anything. Had to watch the Haha wall as my dogs would have fallen off it as theyre nosey.

What a fantastic house this is! Plenty of space inside and out, very comfortable and well equipped (especially the kitchen), perfect for our family get together of 7 adults and 4 dogs. We loved the views from the balcony, patio and conservatory. Nigel and Dougie were both super friendly and helpful. Good dog friendly pub nearby.

I booked this property for myself and a group of friends I was so hoping the property would live up to the photos, and it absolutely did, both inside and out (fabulously Xmas decorated).
