The Derwent Pencil Museum in Keswick (15.5 miles) is also well worth a visit, as is the rest of the town where you’ll find plenty of independent shops and galleries. And if you’re looking for a challenge, tackle the ridges of Helvellyn, starting from Patterdale (13.5 miles).
