Traditional cottage, ideal for friends and family to explore this beautiful unspoiled area of natural beauty in the North Pennines. The 17th-century village of Alston is 5 miles with local amenities.

This beautiful property, situated in the village of Garrigill less than 200 metres from Ashgill Force waterfall, is perfect for couples and families alike. Sleeping four across two tranquil bedrooms, this cottage is an opportunity to explore Alston (5 miles), the highest village in England, and take in everything that the North Pennines, the Lake District and County Durham has to offer. When you’re ready to come home, you’ll be welcomed by traditional decor and cosy furnishings.

The cottage, which has a useful utility room that’s ideal for muddy boots and coats, is spacious and welcoming. The kitchen diner is fresh and bright with stunning views out across the fields, while original exposed beams and a wood burner in the lounge make it a cosy haven to relax in after a long day out walking. Upstairs, the bedrooms will help you drift off into a peaceful sleep; wake up and throw open the curtains to reveal beautiful views from the low windows to start your day right.

Take a ride on the South Tynedale Railway (5.5 miles) and enjoy scenic views of the lovely South Tyne Valley, before taking time to wander around the historic village of Alston. High Force (12 miles) is well worth a visit and is accessed via a gravel path, so children should have no problem walking down to experience the spectacular waterfall that drops 70 feet into a plunge pool. For something a little more challenging, join the Pennine Way from Alston, or if you’ve been training, climb Cross Fell by joining a route just 2 miles’ walk from the property.

The most beautiful view from a cottage we've ever had. Within a short while of arrival we'd seen a hare and kestrel as well as lots of sheep and rabbits. Walks from the cottage door were stunning including a short walk to Garrigill to pick up the pennine way. Accommodation was spacious and comfortable. Large well equipped kitchen.

Ashgillside Cottage is a wonderful cottage in an amazing location. We found 4 fantastic walks from the door which is what we love. Best of all were the swimming places in the stream about 5 minutes walk away. The cottage is very rural. It had water problems while we were there but the hosts who live on-site were exceptionally helpful & friendly andRead more sorted things out for us quickly. We would certainly go again. Thank you for a superb break! Hide
