Beautiful Buttermere is a popular valley, and rightly so! The walking opportunities are abundant and varied; from high fells to woodland rambles, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Grasmoor, Haystacks and Mellbreak offer avid hikers a great day out in the fells - the stunning views from the tops will certainly be worth the climbs. For a low-level walk, why not follow the 4.5-mile circular lakeside route around Buttermere? Stock up on homemade cakes and treats from the village, just a 5-minute drive or scenic walk away, and enjoy a picnic on the shores of Crummock Water, the perfect spot for some R&R.
The market towns of Keswick and Cockermouth are within easy reach, both being less than a 30-minute drive away. Known as the adventure capital of the North Lakes, Keswick is a must for adrenaline junkies. Take on the Go Ape High Ropes course at nearby Whinlatter Forest, try paddleboarding on Derwentwater or have a go at ghyll scrambling and canyoning with one of the local adventure companies. The birthplace of Lakes poet William Wordsworth, Cockermouth is a real gem of a Georgian town. There are plenty of quirky independent shops where you can indulge in a spot of retail therapy, and there’s a great choice of eateries, from cool cafes to tapas restaurants.
Step into the welcoming living room of this property and you're sure to feel right at home. The inviting sofas are positioned in front of the open fire, perfect for relaxing evenings in. There's also a TV with DVD player, CD-radio player and an iPod dock for entertainment. A wonderful sun room provides further living accommodation; light, bright and airy and with an amazing outlook over the surrounding countryside, it's a fantastic spot for catching up with a good book - if you can take your eyes off the view that is!
The country-style kitchen is well equipped with an AGA as well as a separate electric oven with electric hobs, so there's plenty of oven space for cooking up a feast for eight! The kitchen also has a breakfast table, microwave, toaster, kettle, and dishwasher. The fridge-freezer can be found next door in the useful utility room. In here you'll also find the washing machine and tumble dryer, should you wish to make use of those during your stay, as well as a handy extra WC. The separate dining room has a large wooden farmhouse-style table, ideal for the whole group to gather round and swap stories on the day's events - or spread out your maps and guidebooks and plan tomorrow's - over a hearty homecooked meal.
Onwards and upwards to the first floor, where you'll find the four lovely bedrooms. First up is the master bedroom, a fantastic spacious room with an inviting wooden super-king-size bed, perfect for indulging in a long lie in - you are on holiday after all! There's plenty of storage thanks to the tall chest of drawers, and the cute bucket-style sofa between the dual aspect windows is a lovely spot to sit and admire the views. This bedroom has its own stylish en-suite shower room with a WC, wash basin and modern walk-in shower with rain-effect shower head, ideal for refreshing tired muscles after a day on the fells.
The second bedroom has a wooden king-size bed, with matching painted bedside tables on either side. A built-in storage unit has drawers and hanging space, as well as a dressing table, mirror and stool. Again, there are delightful views over the fields and fells beyond from the traditional sash window. The bedroom also has its own en-suite shower room with WC, washbasin and modern shower cubicle, a real treat. Next up is the first of the two twin bedrooms, a bright, dual aspect room with matching single beds. The second twin bedroom is just as lovely as the first and has a cosy, welcoming feel to it.
The family bathroom is also on the first floor. As well as the WC and wash basin, there's a modern shower cubicle and a separate bathtub, perfectly positioned so you can enjoy the fantastic view of the fells from the window whilst enjoying a relaxing soak.
As well as ample parking for up to four cars, outside the cottage is a very generous garden. There is a large lawn area with picnic tables, perfect for dining alfresco. The raised patio off the sun room has an inviting wooden bench, a lovely spot to sit with your morning cuppa and take in the wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. There is also bike storage available in the car port opposite the cottage (please remember to bring your own secure bike locks).
