Escape to this traditional Lakeland farmhouse, just 1 mile from the village of Ennerdale Bridge – it offers a welcoming base for five guests to discover this lesser-known part of the beautiful Lake District. The cosy period property, which has beamed ceilings throughout, is within 5 miles of tranquil Ennerdale Water, the most westerly lake, while the sandy beach at St Bees is just 7 miles away.

After a day spent climbing the fells or canoeing on Ullswater, the homely farmhouse is a great place to return for a meal and a warm-up. The attractively furnished lounge has comfortable seating and a wood burner, while in the country-style kitchen, you can enjoy a wonderful view as you cook. A bright dining room is a great place to plan tomorrow’s adventures. Upstairs, are three attractively furnished bedrooms: a king-size, a pretty twin, and a small single with a window looking over the fells. Outside, a suntrap garden features a patio and lawn with splendid views, perfect for dining alfresco.

Ennerdale Bridge has country pubs and a thriving community-owned cafe and shop, where you can buy local produce. You can canoe and kayak on crystal-clear Ennerdale Water, and explore lakeshore paths created by Wild Ennerdale, a major project allowing nature to re-wild part of this beautiful valley. Head to St Bees to see towering cliffs and feel the sand between your toes. The seaside town has a promenade and cafe as well as a children’s play area. For more adventurous outings, with fun for children and adults alike, visit the Go Ape treetop challenge at Whinlatter (17 miles).

We had a wonderful stay, the cottage was very comfortable and the welcome pack was very much appreciated. We completed 5 Wainwright's, walked around Ennerdale water and Crummock water and went to St Bees Head and Wasdale. The views from the back garden were amazing but sadly this time the weather was very poor and we were unable to enjoy the gardenRead more. Hide

Great location, within walking distance of Ennerdale Bridge (community cafe, pubs) and the hills. Lakeside car park and flat walks there also close. Amazing views from the outside patio seat area, and the back of the house (not from main bedrooms or sitting room, but you can't have it all). The cottage is in a fantastic location for the Western Wainwrights. We bagged Lank Rigg, Grike and Crag Fell walking directly from the cottage. Great location for accessing St Bees too - we had a lovely afternoon by the sea! The cottage itself could do with a little updating, but it was warm and comfortable, with ample space for all. Incredible vieRead morews from the back towards Grike and Crag Fell, and a great enclosed garden for the children/dog. The boot room was also a useful addition! Hide

A lovely comfortable, cosy cottage in a beautiful location. If you want to see the wilder, quieter side of the Lake District this is a great base to do it from. The cottage had everything we could possibly need including a piano! There were only two of us but it sleeps five so we had plenty of room to rattle around in. I'm sure it would still feel Read morespacious even with a full house. Really recommended, and this is our 30th time coming to the Lakes and staying in self-catering holiday cottages. Hide

Had a comfortable stay at Longmoor Cottage. It was one of the best equipped cottages we'd been to with plenty of crockery and cutlery. It's in a lovely, quiet spot in the Lake District but within half hour drive of Buttermere & Wastwater and with Ennerdale Water just a mile away. Had some good walks from the cottage as well as further afield. Was dRead moreelighted to find that the nearest pub (Fox & Hounds) was a lot closer than we thought (only 11 mins walk on a quiet road) and served excellent food. Hide

A wonderful location with a wonderful view up Ennerdale. Characterful house with some exposed beams, part of a complex of three (soon to be four, with the future possibility of pods in the fields round about). A good cafe in the village but you have to go to Cockermouth or Whitehaven, both 20 minutes drive, for a wider range of foodstuffs. CockermoRead moreuth is by far the nicer place, with lots of independent shops and a Friday market. Good access to the Western Fells. Hide

Lovely location, the living room and bedrooms were comfortable. I would recommend to take blankets at this time of year as we found the rest of the house was cold. The fire was a lovely touch which made the living room nice and cosy.
