Set in a superb location on the western fringe of the Lake District National Park, this stylish upside-down apartment offers a tranquil retreat for up to six guests and their two dogs. Within easy reach of the Cumbrian coast and many lakes including Ennerdale Water, this contemporary and welcoming apartment is perfect for walkers, hikers, birdwatchers and keen photographers.
With the bedrooms on the ground floor and living spaces upstairs, this property has been especially designed to make the most of the stunning views from the top floor. The first floor is light and airy with high, vaulted ceilings and skylights throughout. Put your feet up after a lakeside walk in the cosy lounge next to a warming wood burner on a chilly evening, or sit outside on the balcony, a glass of wine in hand, soaking up the views. This open-plan room features a smart, modern kitchen so you can rustle up family favourites and discuss plans for the following day over dinner at the dining table or on the balcony. Downstairs, the three comfortable bedrooms offer a restful night’s sleep, leaving you ready for more adventures in the morning. There’s also a small private garden and lockable storage for bikes and water sports equipment.
The small hamlet of Ennerdale Bridge has a couple of traditional pubs and a village shop, and sits on the route of Wainwright’s renowned Coast-to-Coast walk. It’s just over 1.5 miles to the shores of Ennerdale Water, the most westerly of the lakes and one of the most remote, with 30 miles of traffic-free paths to explore and abundant wildlife to observe. The lakes of Loweswater, Wast Water, Buttermere and Crummock Water are all within 16 miles, offering walking, cycling and water sports. Alternatively, head to the Cumbrian coast to enjoy a day at St Bees (8 miles), home to a lovely sandy beach and an important RSPB seabird reserve.
