With so many walks on offer straight from the front door, you could try a different route every day without even needing to move the car. Walk up to the mysterious Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back to around 3000BC and surrounded by breath-taking scenery. Reopened in late 2020 after extensive storm damage, the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail is a must. A delightful walk or cycle route, follow the path the 3 miles to Threlkeld where you can enjoy lunch at the village café or one of the two friendly pubs before starting on the return leg of your journey. Lace up your boots and head up local fell Latrigg for stunning views over the town, whilst the well prepared can tackle mighty Blencathra, one of the most famous of the Lakeland Fells.
Beautiful Derwentwater is less than a 30-minute walk from the cottage. Take on the 10-mile circular route around the lake. To be even closer to the water, why not hire a rowing boat or try paddleboarding? You could always hitch a ride on the popular launch if you’d rather someone else did the hard work! Keswick has a great selection of outdoor and independent shops, as well as a wide variety of eateries from friendly cafes to traditional pubs, and quirky brunch bars, you could try a different one every day.
The ground floor accommodation is laid out off the central hallway.
To your right is the lovely living room. The inviting sofa and armchairs are arranged in front of the electric stove, perfect for cosy evenings in. There’s a TV for entertainment too, or take a seat in the bay window, a great bright spot to catch up with a good book. A sliding door leads through to the dining room. Gather round the table to catch up on the day’s events over a hearty homecooked meal or spread out your maps and guidebooks and plan tomorrow’s adventures. French doors lead out from the dining room to the rear garden.
At the back of the cottage is the modern kitchen, well equipped with an electric oven and gas hob, handy microwave, a useful dishwasher and fridge-freezer, as well as the all-important toaster and kettle. There’s also a washing machine and tumble dryer in here, should you wish to make use of those during your stay. The sink has a wonderful view over the rear garden to the fells beyond so washing up won’t be too much of a chore!
Onwards and upwards to the first floor, where you’ll find the three lovely bedrooms. First up is the master bedroom. The inviting king-size bed is ideally positioned to make the most of the fantastic fell views from the window, so why not bring your morning cuppa back to bed and enjoy a relaxing brew with a view? A built-in wardrobe with cupboards above and a separate chest of drawers provide plenty of storage. The master bedroom also contains an additional small, pull-out single bed that can be made up to accommodate an extra child aged up to five years (the pull-out bed is not suitable for adults). Next up is the twin room, which has a pleasant outlook over the surrounding rooftops to the countryside beyond. Again, there’s a handy chest of drawers and built-in double wardrobe for storage. Last but by no means least is the single room, a lovely cosy bedroom with a useful chest of drawers.
Also on the first floor is the modern family bathroom. With a washbasin and shower over the bath, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub or reinvigorate muscles tired from walking with a refreshing shower. The WC is separate to the bathroom.
As well as parking for three cars on the driveway, there is a pleasant garden area to the front of the cottage with lovely views over the surrounding rooftops. To the rear is another delightful garden with a good-size lawn area that's ideal for children and dogs to run off any extra steam. At the far end of the rear garden is a patio area with outdoor garden furniture, a lovely spot for dining alfresco.
